No it doesn’t. The RAF and RAAF pilots mentioned were exchange pilots with the F-15 units, and as such wouldn’t have had any optical or IR system to mess about with.

The way i read it the requirement was 260 nm subsonic combat radius + 100 nm dash, and the dash was not radius, it was a requirement to be able to sprint 100 nm.
The dash would have to be radius for the requirement to make any sense at all, or else you’re not returning to your starting point, defeating any logical purpose of entering a radius into the argument.
The truth is the F-22A can supercruise for a 300-mi radius (600-mi total) after traveling 410-mi from its base to the “forward edge of the battle area” (FEBA). This is provided there is ‘NO’ tanker support!!!

They deactivated the S-75 battery there as well it looks like. The HETs are there still, but no more RSN-75, launch rails, or missiles.
IMHO, it’s not so much of a physical limitation, as to an operational limitation. If the plane supercruises for any significant amount of time, the airframe is heated up by air friction to a point where it starts radiating substantial amount of infrared radiation. Such that it loses its stealth, and become vulnerable to infrared seeking missiles.

It states “Combat Radius (NM) Mission 1 (Sub+Super)”, giving figures projected and demonstrated. 310+100 is the radius figure for subsonic and supersonic. The total mission radius is 410NM. Meaning the total RANGE is over 800NM in that mission. Range is double radius, plus a bit more. So if the supersonic RADIUS is 100NM, the supersonic RANGE would be over 200NM. Claiming that it can only go 100NM is therefore totally false and only indicative of an inability to comprehend 1×2.
So, YOU are wrong, your own source gives a performance of over 100NM at supersonic speed!

Once again, since you are using RANGE and not RADIUS, your own link shows a figure of 200NM, which is more than your 100NM claim. 1×2 again.
Apart from that, read what people have already posted in this thread. The Lockheed link only gives figures for “Mission 1”, a certain profile. It also says “Current estimate”, not “actual performance”, so it is not even claiming to represent the definitive performance of the aircraft.
True, but the current situation is far improved over what it was during the 1990s when a lot of the former programs would have borne fruit. You can’t assume that current projects will falter because previous projects failed, because the situation isn’t the same.

They certainly would’ve been. The Su-27M, MiG-29M, and even MiG-31M programs didn’t take that long to get going after initial service variant development concluded. Remember that back then the more likely solution in the USSR was a new variant rather than a retrofitted large-scale upgrade. Of course, the Russians learned first-hand that Communism was an inefficient system, and then the money evaporated, a situation that has been progressively improving recently allowing various upgrade programs to now bear fruit (Su-27SM and MiG-31BM). Claiming that the Soviets/Russians were never going to upgrade or evolve the FLANKER or FULCRUM is demonstrating ignorance or misunderstanding of the entire scenario. Expecting the next generation fighter to have the same service experience as the FLANKER or FULCRUM is equally ignorant, illustrating an inability to understand that the situation in Russia is very different today than it was when the FLANKER and FULCRUM were entering service.

It isn’t limited insofar as range is concerned. It might be limited insofar as duration is concerned, depending on the thermal tolerances of various airframe components. Regardless, the 100NM figure is not the actual maximum SC range. It’s not even being used as an insult correctly, as it is given as an SC radius in the source, not a range, meaning that the range would be at lesat 200NM were the source in fact correct in the context the poster is trying to exploit it in.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe something based on the Yak-41M or Yak-43 designs. Beyond that, who knows what designers may have contributed. It might not be one of the “big three” for fighters, MiG, Sukhoi, or Yakovlev. It could be some small firm along the lines of Mukhamedov’s OKB, who designed the Eurasia Integral (erroneously often reported as the MiG I-2000), that has resurfaced in Iran as the Shafaq.
