I seriously doubt a light fighter force of a couple of F-16s /JF-17 types can deter a serious IAF attack in any manner.
That only makes it all the more suprising that Pakistan has yet to try and deploy anything remotely resembling a modern ground-based air defense network. It’s not as glamorous as a fleet of brand new F-16s but can be very effective if designed and deployed properly.
Red Flag is more to hone the skills, than to present something real.
There you go to given and well known area to find a threat at a given time, which is trained in a similar way most of the time too.
RED FLAG is designed to be more complex and difficult than a perceived warfighting environment. The thought process is that if the pilots can learn from their mistakes and master the exercise, then actual combat operations will be that much easier to undertake.
There was a tailless F-15 proposed as an ATF alternate at one point if I remember right.
All you need to do is go back to a FOBS and have the warhead approach the USA from the southeast.

I’m done with the development history and am tackling the descriptions of all of the associated components as well as the deployment arrangement and hierarchy right now.
It’ll be interesting to see if this thing can get into hardware really, really fast. If so, it could be a serious threat to the JSF program internationally as it won’t be a design constrained by either US requirements, US export restrictions, or having to have a VTOL variant. I wonder if BAE had anything to do with this…
Actually 4 R-77 have been put on Su-27 underneath so on the Su-35BM 4 R-77 underbeath, and 4 under the wings is capable scince it’s capable wityh the Su-27, thats 12 R-77’s
I just noticed that that’s what the diagram star49 posted is showing, four R-77s under the fueselage. But are they on separate hardpoints or on dual rails? If they’re on dual rails then there are not 14 hardpoints…

So where are the other two hardpoints? They can’t fit under the inner wing, they’d interfere with the main gear doors. The Su-35 at MAKS had a Kh-59M on the starboard inner wing pylon and the forward main gear door, the part that opens outward, had very little clearance. Putting something in that inner wing space clearly wouldn’t work.
The IAF contingent with its aircraft are scheduled to depart from Pune on 07 Jul 08 and transit via Doha (Qatar), Chorlu (Turkey), Mont de Marsan (France) and Lages (Portugal) before reaching land main USA and Mountain Home airbase on 17 Jul 08.

Su-35 can carry twe external ECM pods and still carry 12 R-77
How do they manage that when the two wingtip stations are used for the ECM pods? There are two stations under the fuselage, one under each nacelle, and three under each wing, discounting the two wingtip stations. That leaves 10 hardpoints, not 12. There are no other underwing stations; when the Su-35 was displayed at MAKS every harpoint was loaded and there were no remaining attachment points under the wing or body. So where do you get 12 R-77s with 2 ECM pods?
Also, supercruise is the ability to exceed Mach 1 in level flight and maintain supersonic level flight without using afterburners. If you have to use burners to get through Mach 1, you aren’t supercruising. If you use burners the whole time, you aren’t supercruising. This should not be so hard for certain individuals to grasp.
MiG-31: not a supercruise platform, merely a long-ranged supersonic cruise aircraft.
The Su-30MKI doesn’t have the same radar and systems the Su-34 has for example, which are not for export to anyone just yet.
The Su-34 is marketed as the Su-32FN for export. Whether or not it uses the Leninets radar set is another question.
