I’ll add to the above and say I did enjoy reading your post Camlobe 😀

It’s always nice to read positive reviews from visitors to the stuff looked after by volunteers. I should know as I’m one of the people at the adjacent Midland Air Museum and it makes it very worthwhile to know that visitors have gone away happy…..

When I get the chance (it’s bad enough finding the time to look after my own project) I have a mission to see what Airbase has to offer. The Shack is certainly the main draw for me, as I’ve been a big fan for too many years (enough to have seen them still in active service :o).

Found some Youtube clips which make interesting comparison between the two systems:

    Maglev

One of the orignal Maglev units from BHX was sold on ebay not that long ago, but not after some scammer ruined the attempt by ridiculous bidding:

    Maglev Ebay News

Sad to see the state it was on resting on a forgotten plot of land within the airport boundary:

    Sad Sight

I used it when it first opened, and was rather impressed with it all. Sadly it had an awful reputation with reliability which was it’s ultimate demise – only to be replaced with the current cable-pulled system which does at least work more reliably 🙁

The modern AirRail link uses the previous concrete pillars and track bed of the Maglev so at least some of it remains 😉

I know it was spotted heading in the wrong direction, but considering how many plastic Spitfires travel around these parts, I wonder if it’s anything to do with this forthcoming event at Cosford? Long shot I know, but maybe arrived really early on site 😀

    🙁 Another sad sight though….

I’ve got a soft spot for the VC-10 as the type is only 9 days older than me from first flight 🙁

Maybe I should go for reclamation……….
