    Hi Alan

I actually am the OC of 1476, I inherited the sqn back in Aug last year, with very little handover from the previous OC as he had no handover from his predessor (and so on and so on).

I want to be very clear, the prop, was stored very badly by someone, who i am sure will never be known, it sat in the stores for many years, someone then made a mount for it, when we had our extension built some 2 years ago it sat in a classroom on a table. It is not a matter of funds for mounting it. It is that the RAFCA wont fix it. They will only undertake essential repairs to buildings. No other work can be undertaken, and for mounting a very heavy piece of kit like the prop, it would need huge fixing prep and mounting, I only have stud walls.

So given the unknown history and with no prospect of ever having it mounted, the sqn decidied to put it to the only use we could think of and that was to sell it.

    regards

    David

    propellor

    Hi Alan

I am glad you have stepped forward

the propellor is a complete mystery within the sqn.

no one quite knows where and when it originated (donated) it has sat in the stores container for many years (unloved).

now RAFCA wont budget us for attaching it to the wall, as it is non-essentail work. so it has become a white elephant.

I would love to have that beautiful peiece of aviation history retained in the sqn, but have no room to store it.

    Bidding

    Hi All

I have been in deep discusion with my civilian commitee regarding the details of this sale.

I think it best that I will let it run for a decent length of time, say? 2-3 weeks.

I would prefer any potential buyers to view this as I dont want any pre-post problems.

We are a charity and youth organisation, the sale of this directly affects the possible next pilots/engineers/techs/ground crew of the forces.

This is a completly new game to me and my squadron. so please bear with me.

I will sell it and I will answer any questions needed.

I will let you know soon when and how this auction will take place.

    kind regards

    David

    storage

It is true it is outside, but during no usage times it is wrapped up tight, in all directions, not sure where you got the story of damage on demolition, we had an extension built, but nothing near the cockpit.

    transport ATC

I wish we did have an easy access MT agreement.

each ATC sqn is an individual charity, although we are parented with RAF Henlow, which is 85 miles away, or colchester barracks MT pool 43 miles away, which we can obtain vehicles.
For the everyday function of transporting my cadets to local sports of expedition purposes, we have to provide our own funded transport. also added that only uniformed staff are able to take and apply for the MOD FMT600 , our civilian intructors (who are the majority of my staff cant drive the MT pool transport.

    Asking price

    Hi everyone

thanks very much for the interest.

I have had a few offers from collectors and restoration trusts/museums etc.

some from Uk but a few from abroad.

As my ATC sqn is a charity and we are desperately trying to fund a mini-bus, we want to make as much money as possible (obviously).

I am seriously thinking about putting it on ebay, with a no shipping clause and buyer collect agreement. what do you guys think?

I will post more pics taken yesterday evening, on here tonight.

I would be interested in potential offers from the forums readers.

    many thanks

    David
