As T1940 said, must be dump finds, I found loads of interesting stuff at the dump for Willingale
Its a spitfire canopy frame with the butterfly hood latch which sits above the pilots head.

Maybe the one from Thorndon Park near Brentwood, I remember seeing it in the 70s !
It sat beside the hole where someone had removed it, there is also one at the Tilbury fort museum which sits outside, but I think that one had been painted black.
