CWH Lancaster departure and Flight Radar updates here please
Hi All, with the excitement building for the Lancaster’s departure to the UK from Canada has anyone an official time of takeoff please, I am hoping to spend some time staring at flightradar24.com and follow the flight as much as possible.
I did think it would be good for a thread separate from the main sticky for this if all ok with the mods?
Awaiting with anticipation !!!!!
As above, it did not make power, a TOP airman who was actually flying the aeroplane has stated quite clearly, now lets see some of you armchair investigators be in the same position as Chris and see your decision making.
It is irrelevant surmising, something went wrong/let go,the pilot has explained, we have had plenty of incidents where the pilot has not commented publicly.
Just be pleased it all ended how it did, as safe and sound as it could be.
Have a great flight over to the UK, a very special once in a lifetime trip for sure.
No, it was scrap. A real shame, one of the last NOS cuffed-blade Hamilton Standard props in existance, it lasted a grand total of four hours of flight time. 🙁
MISS HELEN the ex Robs Lamplough P51 also had cuffed blades
All too predictable, people won’t pay the ludicrous prices being asked for surplus these days so it ends up in the bin rather than lose face and sell for less. hopefully if there is another auction bids will reflect what has happened here, I hope the scrapper knows now to hang on a bit longer next time
If you want it then pay the price, obviously they were happy with what they got in scrap and less hassle than people bemoaning the prices.
STUNNING STUNNING STUNNING airmanship
Am I wrong or did it not cast its appearance at one of The Great Warbirds Display at West Maling?
It is interesting to note that the gear appears to have been cycled twice. Film shows him pulling up trailing smoke, at altitude, with the gear down. The film of the landing then shows him on short finals with the flaps down but gear up again, with the gear being extended once again just before touchdown.
If you are told or notice your gear is not giving the greens it makes sense to recycle it if time/power allows, shows the pilot was on the ball totally.
Well its four telegraph poles so a substantial erection, maybe it was to support a tank, or a veiwing platform
Hats off to the pilot, I have just seen the landing video another good outcome from an engine letting go, all safe n sound with some work to be done.
oh dear
