A few years back I was in contact with a guy looking for Hector bits for a restoration project, I had a few bits from some wreck that were to far gone for use.
Now it was not in the USA but possibly Ireland but for some strange reason I think he was Welsh !!!, that ads even more confusion.
I take it the cloud base is a little higher than here, only about 800 ft at mo Fairsted
Spitfire LF.IX. G-CICK / NH341. from DX in the clag over the A12 heading to Southend Headcorn, not a nice day to be flying here in essex
Yes all conjecture but I am sure if a crew is needed from their day job they will be free and of course the work has to be signed off before anything starts to whirl

As you well know there would be dates in place for the test flying to begin but of course flexible because of delays in the works completed MET etc but obviously she will need ground running tests for a a few days surely to iron out ant defects that may arise from all the systems that have had to be disturbed during this fantastic overhaul so my point I am making against your point is that we could have a weeks notice at least to a possible test flight? could I get up to see this, i doubt I will be lucky enough to spare the day unfortunately and I would love a trip up to DX not been for a fair while
A Role Royce Engine !
I think its staffing levels and they cannot control the amount of people who may or may not turn up
Remember they slipped her in on a windy day when it was alleged to of been a few days later to keep the crowds away, I feel the same will happen with her air testing and departure whaich may be quite swift
