I totally agree, fortunately here down in NZ at the RNZAF Wigram Museum (best in the country) in Christchurch, they respect the displays and look awesome.

I’ll take some pics when I get there next month and post here.

Lancasters have 3 wheels when parked. I believe they should use them all at the same time !!

I was reading in a CH-1 link that a specially lightened one achieved the world height record for helicopters …about 30,000 ft !!!

Then the french allouette 2 got it back at 36,000 the next year !!

It was said that the Cessna flew so high it left a contrail which was a world first for a chopper!!
All this from a recip motor too, not a turboshaft !!

Well, I was amazed anyway !!

Pity it didn’t work out for Cessna in the end. I think it’s a really cool looking helicopter.

I read once that the black wing/white wing was to signify that wa s the squadron leader’s aircraft but son’t know how true that was…

Don’t mean to confuse the issue further sorry…

    Hi,

Maybe a little off course but I read 2 books a while ago written by a chap who used to fly DC-3s and Hermes for Airwork in the 50’s

I’ll dig up the titles and authors name (can’t quite remember, sorry).

    Cheers

    Most definitely !!

My camera technoolgy and pic-taking abilities have improved somewhat so will be a lot better than these pics

anyway here’s 2 more I found of the P-51 in NZ TAF colour scheme.

Problem with Wanaka is that it gets very dry during summer/autumn and a lot of dust is kicked up.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the info, Dave

I’m sure the 601’s will be treated like gold.

I personally think the “F (Friedrich) ” model is the best looking of the ‘109 series. I think it’s the retractable tailwheel which just cleans it up that much nicer 🙂

    That’s great news !!

Brings back memories of seeing “Black 6” here in NZ a few years ago displaying at Wanaka.

Where are the DB601’s coming from ?

I thought they were like hen’s teeth or are they new builds ?

    No worries,

From what I remember, he flew for 485 squadron, shot down 14 enemy aircraft throughtout the war , and was shot down in 1943 in France, escaping back to England with the help of the resistance.

A really nice guy too in person.

    Thanks Seafury fan.

    This forum is great.

He’s still organising the airshow, but doesn’t look so great these days

Of course not flying anymore since the accident in the Spit.

    Hi Jorgo,

    Thanks for the compliment

Its very popualr for the motorhomes (campervans) up there.

I am so looking forward to Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004.
Will take camera and lots of pics to share here.

My favourite aircraft have to be the Polikapovs (both I-16 and 153). They are absolutley amazing to see and hear.

    Cheers
