    Funnily enough, after the strike wing was disbanded, the government looked at equipping the RNZAF with gunships (Apaches I believe) but nothing came of that.

    I personally believe that the RNZAF needs a more capable maritime aircraft like the Nimrod, more C-130s (perhaps Js) and more up to date helicopters, perhaps UH-60’s.
    This is what the RNZAF is about as the strike force (as good as it was) was more of a deterent than a threat due to the small numbers of aircraft and age (A-4K’s), but the C130’s, Hueys and P-3’s were and are busier than ever with peacekeeping.
    Just my 2c worth.

    Well that’s not strictly true.

    The P-3 Orions still have an offensive capability and the Hueys are armed with M60’s.

    The Navy’s SH-2G’s have a limited offensive/defensive capability also.

    Well for me down here in NZ, a wedding in June, and also the start of building a replica Nieuport 12 (2-seater).
    Should be finished somewhere around 20……….. :rolleyes:

    I’m just glad that they have the poor old girl finally under cover after all the years in the weather.
    It was a sad sight for many years and there was talk of the Lanc breaking it’s back if it was left much longer (don’t know how true that was).

    That scene where the Zero flies through the smoke with the P-40 in hot pursuit, was that cgi ’cause it looked d@mn real !!
