…Near to me there are a couple of similar rumours, including the proverbial lost German bomber in a reservoir…
Seems that these rumours persist everywhere, Nick – There is supposedly a “German bomber” complete with crew in a reservoir near Shepshed…
Actually, there was a ditching there, but it ain’t German: Blackbrook Reservoir

What a load of fear-mongering BS.
Rather like the H1N1 coverage by the UK press IMO…:D

A similar photo appears on Page 73 in “Epics of Aviation Archaeology” by Bruce Robertson. (ISBN 0 85059 305 0).
The book itself is now long out of print, but it may be possible to find a s/h copy.
For the benefit of those who do not have access to a copy of this book, the passage describing the nose section reads as follows:
The nose of an RAF Liberator lay on a market garden at Ingham, Lincolnshire up until about 1965 and then mysteriously vanished.
Mr J D Oughton, the RAF Liberator specialist, believes that it may have been from AM910 which was scrapped at Tollerton, Nottinghamshire in April 1942, after being used at Boscombe Down for the trial installation of 4x 20mm cannon and ASV radar.

My models are (usually) kept indoors!
However, my standard procedure for applying decals is as follows:
– After painting, rub over with a tack-cloth to remove grease, dust etc.
– Mask off.
– Apply 1 or 2 coats of gloss varnish, I use either “Railmatch” or “Precision Paints” aerosols. (TIP: Do this outside and wear a respirator-type mask!)
You can also use Future/ Klear – Apply with a soft, wide brush, or preferably with an airbrush.
-Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
– Apply decals, using setting solution if necessary (e.g. Microset/ Microsol).
– Allow to dry thoroughly.
– Inspect. Any “silvering” can be cured by pricking with a needle and applying more setting solution to the offending area.
– When you are happy with the result, and everything is nice & dry, apply your top coat of varnish. (My preferred finish is Satin.)
Hope this helps!

I hate TV ads. 😡
I watch precious little of the old idiot box anyway, but when I do, I always seem to switch on during the ad. break.
Not only are they all advertising the same crap, but why are they twice the f
g volume of the programme you are watching?
Very annoying…
Thank God for the ‘mute’ button…

Steve – If in doubt, do both.
Then disappear down the wine cellar and do some “testing”! 😀

…my opinion, put those who gave their lives where they should be, not left in a piece of ground that one day will be forgotten about.
cheers

Seconded.
The debt we owe to them, and others like them, can never be repaid,
we can start by bringing these lads home, and give them a decent burial.

You know how sometimes doing a mundane job,you can just drift off in that sort of daze.
During a rather hot summers day id been spray painting these fence panels and posts for quite a few hours ,when i noted a few panels back an untreated area. i tutted and resprayed the affected spot.It was only later while enjoying a well earned brew that i spotted a Persian cat with one side Forrest green.
:D:D:D
I can just imagine a cat-shaped outline on the fence panels…!
I think that beats my most embarrassing moment!
Back in 1993-ish, myself and a friend had been visiting a well-known model shop in the Midlands, and had been given some rather dodgy advice by one of the assistants, which both of us knew was largely incorrect.
Anyway, a couple of hours later, we were stood at the bar of a local pub, and I was chatting to the barman (another keen modeller).
I had launched into a tirade of abuse directed at the aforementioned assistant, when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that my companion had seemingly developed a twitch.
I looked round at my friend to see what was wrong, and spied the model shop assistant standing behind my friend….
