    Fantastic news

I’ll have to split my next overseas plane spotting excursion in two – UK (Vulcan), and US (Shar) 🙂

    I agree with Mark Pilkington.

Besides, Peter Jackson is producing the Dambusters movie not directing it. Christian Rivers will be responsible for the way the film is shot and edited. PJ’s love for the original movie, and the subsequent research he did were the motivation to get the project together.

I’d say we are lucky that PJ is involved. Had he not had the clout afforded by the success of LOTR and Kong who knows where the project would be. I liked this bit of what he said:

‘It’s also another one of those cinematic experiences that we haven’t quite nailed yet with the technology that exists today. We haven’t really seen a World War 2 low level bombing attack that has been done with all the power of CG that really make you feel like you’re really participating in that raid. They were flying incredibly low, barely missing the treetops.’

I’m a fan of the original movie, but I can’t wait see what can be done to bring the sacrifice of those involved to a new audience.

    Great stuff

Thanks Airgage, it bought back many happy memories of my visit to Legends in 2000.

I recently purchased a DVD which contained in-cockpit and display footage of RR299. It brought back many happy memories of my journeys to the UK in the 80’s and 90’s. RR299 was one of the aircraft I looked out for when I visited, and I consider myself fortunate to have seen her display.

I don’t know the names of the crew, or the people who maintained her during that time. But I’d like to say thanks.

I should have mentioned, it’s streaming video so you’ll need broadband to do it justice.

Thanks for the update Grayfly. I wholeheartedly agree with Roger W. I’ve been fortunate enough to see Mr Gray’s wonderful aircraft at Duxford a couple of times, and Beaufighter or not his efforts viewed from this side of the world continue to amaze me.

I’m amazed by the progress so far. Seeing the fuselage halves together is so exciting.

I agree Dave, it’s very thoughtful of AvSpecs to post as many updates as they do.

I’ll resist the ‘will it be at Legends’ comment, but will it be at Warbirds Over Wanaka? 🙂
