Or how about a photo of Stenigot as it was?

    Adrian,

The site bar was originally the Transmitter Block. The concrete bases for the four steel transmitter towers can be seen in a line beside it. The Receiver Site, with Receiver Block, is elsewhere on the site.

Sadly, I don’t know where it came from, but it definitely wasn’t from elsewhere in Kent. It came from a station somewhere between Stenigot in Lincolnshire and Douglas Wood north of Dundee, but I don’t know which one.

They are CH towers, but not both original to the Dover site. One has been moved from elsewhere and re-erected at Dover.

I do know it, and know that it is full of errors. Buy it if you wish, but know this: you can’t assume anything in it is correct! That’s why I didn’t recommend it. It’s a shame, it could’ve been a great book, but it’s not. If you want an account that has been researched in immense depth but is still a great read, go with RDF1. It’s the only book on British radar ever written that is accurate!

The best book on the subject by far is RDF1 by Michael Bragg. It used to be sold on Amazon but is now out of print. I think second hand copies are still available, either there on via Abebooks. Either way, this is the best book if you want to know about British radar, rather than British intelligence on German radar.

Just to be really pedantic, the Trolly Acc is a post-war type and is completely out of period.

Thanks, I’m aware of the website. All I am seeking is clarification of what the article that was supposedly in the Scotsman actually said.

Thanks MM, but it clearly states on that webpage that the article was published on 22 September, so this can’t be the story Drem was referring to. I assume he was meaning there was an update with the latest news in today’s paper, but I couldn’t find it.

    todays Scotsman Newspaper

May I just check that you mean today’s paper (ie 11th December)? The reason I ask is that I have a copy of the paper and can’t see anything about Prestwick in it. If it is indeed that edition, may I ask what page the piece is on?

More fun on the front of a museum aircraft where it belongs!

    I agree!
