Terrific photo – where?
I don’t know what Rlangham, Austerer Extraordinaire, will make of this!!
Oh well, I guess my inclination to make an assumption wasn’t entirely justified. No conspiracy theories, in fact nothing of any interest at all. Kinda like “The Archers” with wings!
That’s forty-five minutes of my life I’ll never see again!
Loved the comedy Stuka dive at the end though – summed it up nicely.:p
So, on the basis that it said something, what did it say? Was it factual? Was it purely fictional with no basis in fact? Why will you consign those 45 minutes to oblivion. Bad production? Bad acting? Or was it just boring because, perhaps, the subject was boring?
I am interested. What would you recommend as the best written account of what went on and why?
Good in parts I think. A bit like a British ‘Right Stuff’ with the inclusion of the insights into the home life of the characters . I liked the scene of the first encounter between Beamont and Edwards. Shame about the comedy Stuka at the end though, but its difficult finding good usable clean sound effects of a Sabre at full throttle from inside or outside the cockpit ! Well done to the Beeb for broadcasting a story which still manages to stir emotions either way.
I’ll give it a listen, then. Sounds as though you and Chox were listeing to different programmes………;)
Reading this thread makes me sad that I disposed of much of what I had in various moves. But the question of leaving it to family is fraught with difficulties, when they may be uninterested and regard the bequest as a liability. Twin Otter makes an interesting point about museum donations, which had not occurred to me. And there is too the problem of duplication – many private collections will be part duplicated, and there will be far fewer unique and/or highly collectable items.
I wish you all luck in finding good homes for your collections.
Yes, indeed. There are very few left now….:(
Hairyplane – having read your post I can only say “lucky old Hairyplane”! Your fleet sounds mouthwatering and I have no doubt at the pleasure you must get from them. And models as well. If I was the jealous type I’d be very green indeed, but I wish you continuing joy with all of them.:D
My apologies if this has been posted before or if it is well known to forumites but only came across it yesterday.
I can make no contribution to the likelihood or otherwise of seeing this in the air but would be very chuffed indeed if it happened.:D
I have finally caught up with the programme on iPlayer. It was OK, but nothing special and I didn’t like the Prime Ministerial fantasies but otherwise it was fairly workmanlike, but without insight, as someone else posted. The glaring faux-pas was to hear the “Martin baker” referred to as an injection seat!:o
And further to my earlier discovery of the documentary on You Tube I have now found all 6 of the series. They are very interesting. I was also re-reading Beamont’s account of the flying characteristics of the aircraft in his “Testing Years”, which I haven’t looked at in a very long time. 🙂
Hello,
This is what you get when you decide to employ “Professional peple”, who have probably spent a fortune on “market research” to justify any decision they may make, [common sense has no place].
As the poppy is associated with the WW1, I presume its day is numbered.

To be fair, yes, but I am sure the RBL have made a point in recent years of laying great stress on incorporating ALL conflicts into Remembrance Day. After all post 1945 the 2nd World War was included. That, hoever, does not detract from what seems to be an act of near vandalism. Perhaps more facts will emerge.
I read No Highway and On the Beach many years ago and then, I think, both were filmed. I knew little of his background. I must re-read him including some of the other titles mentioned.
Their gain is our loss. I hope they enjoy Grumpy as much as we have for the last few years.:(:)
