Why pay for a heli when you’ve got a couple of madmen to climb up the mast??

I saw the film a few months a go and passed it around a few friends none of whom would do it for ANY money! Extreme rockface climbing falls into the same category and it’s the relaxed ease that these blokes go about their business that impresses me. For them it’s just a job, I suppose.

Well maybe, Linc but I said £30000 in an earlier post, you echoed it by remarking on £30000 to live on etc etc and I responded by saying that it was about £23000 after tax?NIC. So I cannot see the confusion but not to worry – the thread has moved on, courtesy of Spitfireman to teachers having a more dangerous job than a policemen. 😉

Read #81 and #82 and you will find I did not “damned well” quote you, as you so politely put it!

GA – exactly so., You mentioned the Fire Service and I would include all emergency services, police and the military, as I mentioned earlier.

I wondered specifically whether members think that teachers should strike on Thursday. Should any groups be prevented from strike action?

It would certainly be refreshing to see our “leaders” setting an example and that goes for politicians, senior civil servants, senior private industry executives and union leaders.

Correct me if I am wrong, Kev, but depending on the amount of care required it is about £30,000 a year, I seem to recall from some figures published by the NHS last year.

No, you are right, they shouldn’t. But it has happened in the past. In any case you would argue that if they had felt strongly enough they should have voted thereby perhaps even preventing the strike.

Of course teachers are not required to be members of a union. I wonder how many are not and why they did not offer to work.
