Great Yarmouth was a sprat compared to the mackerals of Aberdeen, Perterhead and Fraserburgh.;):D And the East Europeans had taken over by the time I was spending up there, with their fleets of trawlers and huge factory processing ships lying a few miles offshore. In those days there were Russkies and others in every other pub!

That’s sacriledge, Linc!!:( A bloater is an unfilleted smoked herring and thus has a uniquely different and strong flavour. It is found all over the country, but has its origins in Norfolk at Great Yarmouth. I think it is less common now than it used to be.

Being coldly commercial, unless they pay up front or you are feeling philanthropic, no.
As for the point about there being no proof that Vulcan funds would have been diverted to other projects, no, of course there isn’t. It is only a “gut” feeling and I honestly do not think that a majority of the small donators are aviation enthusiasts in the strict sense of the word. And for that non-enthusiast the restoration of one Spitfire is no different from the restoration of another Spitfire or any other aircraft. The difference is that the Vulcan is unique. There is only one. Even the Lancaster is not unique, although the only other flyer is in Canada.
I think it is that that caught the imagination, as well its shear physical presence.
