    Without doubt it has just as it has in all walks of life. But it is here to stay in one guise or another so those great days you looked at are gone forever, I fear. I recall airshows being more exciting because we used to be nearer the action, in every sense of the word. Safety is very important but as a spectator you accept that you are attending an event at which there could be a serious accident, just as in motorsport.

    If the BBMF were to suffer cut-backs, putting an end to a Lanc in the air then the opportunity still to enjoy the spectacle with Just Jane would be unmissable. Where public money is concerned there is little room for “emotion” and our indebtedness is barely touched by the current round of cuts so I am not optimistic about what the future has in store……:(

    Not to get too far into this debate because its stupid (and ppp does sound like his wife force fed him haggis every day) – Oil money is 2% of GDP. And being in a Union you cannot rob yourself! That’s life, as is the UK taxpayer having to bail out Edinburgh headquarted banksto the tune greater than Scotlands GDP.

    As to the question posed originally. If the government can make something as important as Trident replacement political then a couple of RAF bases are easy meat.

    Didn’t you know, Stryker, that many Scots have eccentric spectacles through which financial figures become quite distorted!;)

    Don’t forget Scotland has 10% of the taxpayers, so we have a 10% stake in the UK’s armed forces. Why shouldn’t we have 10% of the airbases, and all the revenue and local prosperity that brings?
    Don’t forget that if we leave the UK, we’ll be taking over 90% of present and future oil revenues with us…

    That’s only if Shetland doesn’t cecede:)………..Anyway UK budget for Scotland is about £25 billion and 2010 oil revenues about £7 billion so it sounds like a good deal for the English.:)

    It sounds like a very focussed story on the problems of PTSD suffered by soldiers after the war, rather than a film about the conflict itself.
