We are not out of the woods yet, although it seems surprising that the imposition of VAT and the fuel price hike were not factored in to the calculations sooner.

I think the original point is misconstrued. The fact that aviation is the second most popular spectator sport after soccer is irrelevant. You might as well say that angling is the sport most participated in of all so we should be deluged with angling programmes. I would suggest that about 10% of the 100,000 who attend an airshow would actually watch aviation related programmes on TV. The majority attend airshows as a great day out with the flying as just one component of their day.
I freely admit I am anti onland wind farms but if they were efficient I would support them…
Some quotes from an article…Efficient at ‘Generating’ money…
Quel surprise
And finally…
Countries which have significantly embraced wind farms such as Germany have reviewed their position in the light of such results and are now determining that developers move to off shore positioning.
It should be noted that Volkswind who are seeking on shore opportunities in the UK are a German company.
Sorry for the lengthy re-quote, but I should stress that I too would be wholly in favour of them if they were cost and energy efficient and if there was the remotest chance of them supplying even 60% of their nominal capacity to the grid, all the time. But I would still not support their construction if they affected the airshows at Duxford.

It is a disease which infects a great many car/van drivers, I find. The necessity of having to park no more than a few metres from your destination – yellow line parking, disabled bay parking, blocking driveway parking, out-of designated bay parking in car parks and so on…….

That’s good to know and from your comments he clearly enjoyed his life as well, which is good to know – not all inventors of simple but clever ideas benefit from them.

One of the key inventions of the last century and I hope it kept him in comfortable retirement until his sad death.

Great – thanks Flying-A, I will keep an eye out for it over the next few weeks.

So unless you are inconsistent you would presumably ban all airshows and while you are about it you might as well ban all historic aircraft from flying as well and then……..well, when do you stop? What nonsense. Or did I miss a smiley….?
