There is an lot of sense in this. However I am less confident in the demonstrators’ view of the reasons for what they are douing. So many demonstrations these days are driven along sheep-like, exacerbated by social networking interaction. I don’t doubt that if a million people do turn out there will be hundreds of different reasons for the demonstrators’ presence.

That being said a change of regime is nigh on inevitable and it is indeed up to the Egyptian people to decide what they want. Having been subjugated for a long time it is difficult to know how strong the mood to Islamist parties is but as Interflug suggests, the West has played its share in that likelihood.

Many well-intentioned and kind people have an unrealistic attitude to man’s relationship with animals. Man has always killed animals for a variety of reasons and the majority of animals kill other animals to survive. It’s a fact of life. Thousands of species of animals have been wiped out due to natural causes and every year we discover new species precviously unknown to us. And so ther cycle will continue over the next few millenia……..

Mrs SH called out at the appointed moment and so I enjoyed the sequence – nothing new or revealing, but who needs an excuse to watch and hear 4 Merlins start up and run…..:D

Thank you for that. I read an extremely good book on Bletchley at the end of last year and passed it on to a distant relative who worked there. Its role has never been given the recognition it deserved and but for the thousands who worked there the war might have lasted longer and the end might have been very different.

PeeDee – “Oh, what a fantastic case for the Defence. Class, pure class mate”

I am not making a case for either side. I am trying to debate the subject objectively and emotional ranting doesn’t help. I know it’s very difficult for some people to accept, that in a world as diverse as the one we inhabit, other people will behave outside the norms we generally accept for a civilised society. That being the case it does not make their behaviour empirically wrong. And certainly not in their eyes.

I once wrote a short story along very similar lines… something about a second Falklands War where we had zero capability, and the only real option left was to reinstate the two Victors…….

How did you get them there and back?:)
