Coincidentally I have just finished reading the article on this in today’s Telegraph. Extraordinary that it was kept secret for so long. Two relatively minor mistakes made the difference between a safe maiden voyage and catastrophe for thousands.

Dustyone – yes, true and it was implicit from the film that that was the case but since the challenge had arisen from a 48 hour build in the USA was that too an “assembly”?

Terrific pictures – all, AA – full of atmosphere……And those Magisters remind me of the old Patrouille de France displays several years back.

Sadly not – my next appointment there is on October 10th. Have a great day, though – you cannot fail not to…….:)

As ever Tangmere’s points are not only useful and relevant as well as knowledgable from years of “hands-on” experience. For some reason there is more “sensitivity” about bodies and how they are treated nowadays and I can’t quite understand why. The key point about this incident is that the remains were recovered and formally buried with attendant ceremony and solemnity. Surely this is what was important for the relatives.

Missed it so must watch on iPlayer in the next few days. I think I’d rather have “plummy 50s accents” than some of the incomprehensible garbage the Beeb offers from some of its current presenters/contributors…………;)

In principle, that’s true, but the level of our investment was very low and if it was yet another BBC co-production, even less! And regardless of that the on/off switch is always available.

Or even “Futuristic”. It is an interesting aircraft, and we will, no doubt, look back on it as the “Flying Bedstead” of its day.

Having been in the “game” many years ago I can vouch for everything you have said here. Be warned – get everything in writing – in triplicate!! I doubt that things are any better than they were 40 years ago.

Thank you for reminding us of that, at this time and particularly when there is such controversy surrounding the memorial. Our debt is to every aviator, not only the “Few”.

And presumably, Dunbar, that would apply to all the other Harvards as well as Stearmans, Tiger Moths and Austers (if any) flown for commercial gain?

But we haven’t escaped, have we – it’s tonight and I intend to be there!
