May I be the first to respond? But I reluctantly agree with you as I posted earlier. I mentioned my latest pet hate “I am good” in response to “How are you?” But the evolution of language is very strong and our petty irritations will become irrelevant, I am sure.:(

I took the Airport out the equation to show that people make flippant comments all the time in this way, and security or not, this comment, airport related or otherwise, reflects the type of flippant comment that wouldn’t raise any eyebrows in any other respect.

He DIDN’T act like a moron! Let’s take the Airport out of the equation because it get’s people fired up. If you’d been sat at a station with friends and been delayed over and over again because of something you judged to be incompetency on the part of a train operating company, you may make some comment verbally to your travel companioins along the lines of “if they don’t get this train here in the next 5 mins I’m gonna go and smack the management round the face”. It’s EXACTLY the same, a vent of frustration aimed at a view of incompetence, but expressed to his friends via a different medium to verbal, or even text.

I’ll ignore your first comment as being unworthy of it, just rather sad.

You cannot take the airport out of the equation, as you put it because that is exactly the reason for the problem and the debate we are having. Anyone will know, unless they have been dwelling in a cave for a decade, just how sensitive anything to do with flying and security is. So to tweet what he did makes him either wilfully irresponsible or stupid, or both. Either way he is a moron.

I used to think that the Gov would sort out its defence funding once we were involved in a war where, regretably, large number of servicemen and women would come home in body bag as a result of lack oft resources and equipment. how niave was I, this Gov actually carried on cutting the budget when we are a war. If I could I would charge the Gov with negligence for endangering the lives of our armed forces above what can be expected due to their poor management and duty of care.

And to add insult to injury an new Tory government would slash defence but ring fence overseas aid both to countries in need and those like India, which are better off than we are. Madness.:mad:

Let’s take a balanced view of this. He made the comment that anyone with a shred of sense knows could be taken wrongly, so it really wasn’t the wisest thing to say. However, it really was very obvious it was intended as a joke so regardless of which jumped up little tosser reported it (and he needs a good slap for being stupid and should be charged with wasting police time), surely the police should have had the sense to just dismiss it instead of wasting everyone’s time investigating it so thoroughly? I’m sure someone somewhere will give the whole ‘you’d be talking differently had he actually blown it up so wouldn’t you rather the police be careful just in case’ speech, but frankly, no, I wouldn’t rather they be careful to the point of stupidity. I’d rather a bit of common sense and logic be brought back to the whole situation instead of these ridiculous and almost pathetic examples of paranoia we keep hearing about. All situations like this do is make people even more worried about flying, they don’t improve things in any way, shape or form.
