I agree with Bumlebee. I too have no problem with anyone wanting to live here, but would qualify it by insisting that they are only free to do so if they accept and abide by our laws and our institutions. If they prefer their ways and institutions, why come here? That’s rhetorical because of course we know why. And that is the problem.

The government should make it crystal clear that compliant immigrants are welcome and uncompliant immigrants will be sent packing IMMEDIATELY.

We do not want the type of Asian Bumblebee encountered, but the type who runs our local newsagents and has been here for 40 years and enjoys a good anti-muslim joke, works hard, pays his taxes ( presumably ), has friendly, happy ( not scowling ) children and is very much part of the community – they are very welcome and add to the UK culture in the 21st century.

So now it might be Bernie Ecclestone for SAAB. Whoever buys it has to generate a profit from it, something which it has lacked for many years, so I don’t see much hope. Pity – I enjoyed my 5 Aero a fer years ago – it didn’t half shift, given a nice bit of autobahn!:D

Exactly, an EU federal state would be excellent. A common currency is the best way forward, another Gold Standard….but made to work.
and…..how on Earth can a study of economics NOT be political? Every theory is written to suit the political bent of its author/founder.

As I said before common currencies cannot and do not work. I reckon the Euro only has a 50/50 chance of existing in its present state by the end of a decade unless those nations that want it so desperately determine to give up their nationhood for federalism. Fortunately that will not include the UK.

I think the merits or otherwise of being offered and accepting an OBE have been dealt with in another thread. Intelligence doesn’t come into it.

My availability, due to other commitments, is also rather sporadic, with 3 or 4 days logged on for several hours and then away for a day or two, so I don’t think I could give the time, which I guess is required.

They’re two very different characters. Ross is brash, quick witted and quite intense at times whereas Clarkson has a much slower and possibly more thoughtful style of getting his point across. He’s almost sedate in comparison to Ross although they both have their positive and negative sides, and of course, interpreting those is very personal.

Mmm…helpfully analysed. That’s the word – brash, with a fair dash of arrogance thrown in, perhaps? Quick wittedness I rather like, if directed intelligently, but I think it is the brashness that sticks in the throat.
