And history tells us that common currencies don’t work if the members retain separate fiscal identies. Hence the EU’s passion for federalism.

And of course for many lesson 1 in Primary Economics is leave the EU at all costs………….

One thing that always cheeses me off about this country is the fact that everyone loves a loser. We all supported Eddie Edwards, Frank Bruno, Tim Henman etc etc. These people were losers, end of story, but we all love them.
I feel this is inherent within society, even in school they teach you “it’s not the winning that counts, but the taking part”. This is b****ks. It’s the winning that counts, I will never teach my daughters that it’s the taking part that counts. This attitude is why we used to be so bad at everything. We have no killer instinct, no drive, no determination. Luckily with the cricket team this has changed somewhat.

That is true but surely we also adulate winners like Lewis Hamilton, Seb Coe, Freddie Flintoff, Geoff capes, Tom Daley, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and from many years ago I remember our sporting heroes included Roger Bannister and Chris Chataway, Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn, Denis Compton and Len Hutton and the list could go on.

Perhaps the difference is that here we love both – winners and losers, whereas in other countries it’s only the winners who matter.

I prefer to regard myself as a realist. Let’s face it we are rubbish at sport due to the lack of really serious investment in the youth sector for training facilities.

Well I partly agree but we have won the Ashes from time to time and we have won a good few Rugby Internationals and the world Cup and we picked up a few medals at the last Olympics. We could be better and we could have far better youth training facilities, that’s true, but what we are good at is talking our hopes and aspirations down. We lack real self-belief much of the time and perhaps that’s a cultural trait.

Just because decisions are final doesn’t mean they can’t be questioned. Those of us who’ve been on this forum for a good few years and spent a lot of time here have seen the changes its been through and frankly, for whatever reason those changes have ultimately been for the worse. What we’re trying to do is find reasons why the changes have been negative and see if we can make these forums a better place, more like they were 4-5 years ago (and even before, although going further back is beyond my time here). Although the subject of moderation is how this discussion came to light, that isn’t the sole issue and this thread is giving all of us a great opportunity to express our opinions on how things can be improved. Any forum is only as good as those posting there make it; this particular forum has been in decline for a couple of years so I see this thread as a possible way for improvements, possibly quite drastic improvements, to be made.

Fair enough, Paul, and I’ll accede to that. It clearly is less narrow and goes far deaper than I had discerned.

I hope you all succeed in your endeavours and look forward one day to visiting a greatly improved forum. With no knowledge of how it used to be I will undoubtedly enjoy it even more than I now do.:)

Perhaps its now time for the MOD to step in to defuse a developing situation and not using W.B. as a road transit point for the funeral homecoming , using other means at its disposal to Get these ‘Boys’ to there Families and Home Towns ,

Why should we allow what has been a moving and meaningful experience, offending no one locally, as far as we are aware, to be changed because of a “developing situation” provoked by a group acting specifically to cause antagonism and controversy?

If it were clear what your suggestion actually is then I would! You don’t seem to really make one.
