Waco – why, you ask! If you need to ask the question you clearly have more faith than I do in the likely winner of national vote for Head of State.

You also seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that the HoS has to be anything other than a figurehead and a representative of our country and who, most important of all, is 100% apolitical.

He/she also offers experience and advice, totally confidentially, to the Prime Minister of the day.

Linc – I wouldn’t know about that – I was just talking about genuine gun collectors whose only interest is in them as “mechanical works of art”, for want of a better description.

I am of course well aware of the gulf between our legislation and that in the US. In fact the right to own a gun is close to being sacrosanct, as the repeal or amendment of the law has been proposed many times without success.

Chox – I suppose it is what you get when you let an rank amateur present it. I am sure he’s a lovely bloke and all that, but why not have someone who knows all about it, to present it.

Having said that I did not see it, so am only commenting on others’ interpretations of what they saw.

I think the activity of gun collection is being over-looked. I have known a couple of collectors in my time, neither of whom had the remotest interest in firing the weapons but enjoyed them as beautifully crafted tools. Their enjoyment came from possessing aesthetically pleasing articles, which, in some cases, were very rare. I see no difference between gun collecting and collecting works of art or books or motor vehicles or anything else.

Waco – The mind boggles at the mere suggestion that the populace have a vote for the Head of State. If I didn’t think you were pulling our legs I would suggest you were sectioned!!:diablo:
