Linc – “we could make better use of than we do.” The Scots and Welsh have made very good use of their water. Dinorwig in Wales is a massive 1.7GW station and the there are 6 or 7 100+MW stations in Scotland.

You write as though money was no object. The sums of money already mooted are astronomical. How much more do you suppose it would cost if huge sections were underground? And underground habitation not open countryside.

I don’t think there is anything super cool about the internal combustion engine any more, is there? It would be instructive to know how much has been spent on various alternative energy technologies over the last, say, 10 years. My guess is millions, across the board, rather than tens or hundreds of millions.

There is something of the Ryanair syndrome afoot here. Travel method is slammed at the same as more and more people use it. Mmmm.

That’s one and there are several types of fuel cell technology but little development support here…I wonder why??

Fuel cell technology is surely the way forward for wheeled vehicles, isn’t it? It has existed in commercial form for some time and is used in a very limited way at present. George Bush’s 2003 programme was cancelled by Obama who claimed that other technologies could be commercially viable more quickly. He did not specify which, and that after 6 years of development and a billion or more dollars.
