One of the nastiest smells is the hypocrisy of what we are discovering took place and the titles’ public support for servicemen as well as Help for Heroes.

I thought you might – but I was being a trifle provocative.:) Mind you since the Vulcan’s days are eventually numbered, whatever happens, the thought of the B29 down the display line is very tempting. It is one of the aircraft I most enjoy seeing at Duxford.

Probably some of the same people who stopped the WI doing the flower arranging in Gloucester Cathedral – they would have been in the building at the same time as the choristers!!!

🙂 Inded , children always seem to get directly to the point, don’t they? – at least my 8 year old does!! We will be there this weekend and for him the hangars are just as interesting as the flying, so we are in for a long day.

At the risk of being hounded from the thread are we losing a sense of perspective here? Compare the IWM now to the museum a decade or more ago.

As a regular and interested visitor I find something new on each visit as well as deepening my knowledge of what I already know. My young grandson no doubt gives the impression that many youngsters do of being bored and playing. But often 2 or 3 days later he will start to talk animatedly about what he has seen, heard and touched. Adults frequently misjudge a child’s reaction to an event.

He and his peers are the future and if when he is older and there is no Shackleton to see at Duxford, but there are elsewhere, how traumatic and how serious will that be?

I would suggest, in the grand scheme of things, not at all.

Is the immigrant unit still there or has it been closed? I lived not far away and remember the activities during the late 60s and 70s. Although things went quite quiet, if I recall, from about 1978/9.

Pagen – well opinion differs, but at least we are agreed the whole saga is appalling and as I suggested a very large can of worms has been opened.

“The Sun and Liverpool springs to mind” – forgive a “senior”£ moment but please remind me….:)

I meant to add that, although somewhat diminished by the nature of this story, the parallel story of payments to the police by the NOTW are just as serious, and have deep implications for the media but much more significantly, the police.
