Yep – told you it was easy – Hucknall (Nottinghamshire) it is! Well done! (Dean – you’re in Bomber County=East Mids, so you’re bound to know!). To be exact it’s Rolls-Royce’s aero-engine plant at Hucknall. The ’roundabout’ has perhaps the largest central island ediffice in the World! It is, as you can see, an engine test rig.
There’s a few more of Hucknall at either of the links below.
Chris
#229, whose clever idea was it to build a roundabout in the middle of the runway?
WP – Um,the owners of the site. Good, innit? And it is one helluva roundabout! No clues yet though…..
Chris
PS – that feature I think is the one which will give it away. The site in question isn’t what you might call ‘down south’ either.
Dean – it is Leadenham! As I said in an earlier post, I didn’t want to say anything as it would have looked like a conspiracy! By the way – it’s as boring on the ground as it is from the air!
Anyway – here’s another one. This should be easy.
Chris
Nope, lost me there BR!

I think this is being referred to. Scroll down the page a bit to the article headed “Twin Winwalkers Go Utterly Butterly”. Cleared it up for me too!

1 Group – you fiend! 😉
If I answer, people will think it’s a conspiracy, although it did take some working out!
Can I answer post #220 Chris!!!!
Oh, go on then Noel!
Chris
Here’s another one then. No clues yet, but it’s not a particularly well-known airfield (I don’t think anyway).
Chris
PS – now I’ve said that of course, someone will get it straight away!
It appears from the ‘Sally B’ web site, she’s scheduled back at Duxford tomorrow.
It’s the ‘News & Events” for further details. http://www.sallyb.org.uk/
Chris
PS – ‘She’ does look nice, doesn’t she? The rest of the aircraft’s not bad either. C.
Sorry PP – my mistake – it’s QR-M! I didn’t actually LOOK at my photo on the notice board. Apologies folks!
I’ll stand in a corner now facing the wall!
Phantom Phixer,
When exactly did she wear DR-M? I have a photo of her on my notice board here taken at Mildenhall in the very early nineties(?). Would that be about right right?
Chris
Tricky – three Thor pads. Let’s start rumaging guys!
Unless it was originally a grass-surfaced airfield, whoever removed the runways have a made VERY good job of it!
Chris
Dean & Webpilot – Yes, it’s Kelstern. Well done. So is Dean’s aerial photo.
It was, apparently an experiment in hauling Lincolns sideways into T2 hangars. IIRC something to do with wingspan and max door width. The rails are actually from the Grimsby tram network and were ‘surplus’.

With regards to the Hampster and the cash generated towards a second Yorkshire Air Ambulance, this news must have come as a bitter blow:

Dean – I can see your thinking regarding Lincoln’s. This one IS related.
