A London – Dresden link would be excellent, avoid changing at Frankfurt or Munich….although I have to confess I quite enjoy changing!
That’s the best news I’ve heard all year Ian! We keep on being told how bad groundschool is for type ratings but I’m convinced it can’t be this bad, at least it’s a bit more focused. Anyway, I’ll keep plugging away and keeping you all updated!
To get a job at the end of this bloody training!! 😀
brenmcc1, according to my entry report to OAT I displayed good leadership, helping to introduce weaker members of the group into the discussion. I apprently think out loud which enables myself and my team mates to work effectively together.
Hope that helps mate! Ian, I’ll write a report now.
There’s absolutely no way you could do your A levels and ATPL at the same time!! I stuggle enough doing my ATPL groundschool and I study it 13 hours a day, how could you possibly get in A levels as well!
As Preston said I’ve flown the morning STN-BLK service before, three times in all to be exact! The loads have always been very good, I’ve also flown BLK-DUB and that flight was sold out!
Some very interesting points raised there Ian which have brought me over to the bus side a bit more. One thing I didn’t think about, although it’s obvious is the fact that on long haul you won’t actually be manually flying for much of the flight at all, a yoke would take up so much space and cause much discomfort whereas with the sidestick you’ll be flying in comfort! Just think you’ll have that table to read your Airliner World (or other publications 😉 ) on!!
It was indeed the Charlie pier, my most disliked one as well! Dirty, dark and boring…and worst of all no train to it 🙂
The standard doesn’t need to be anywhere near A-Level standard. OAT say that you’ll need GCSE standard. In my first few weeks of training I did study slightly with the Maths involved, but my confidence has increased as I’ve gone on and I now feel comfortable in the majority of problems I have to deal with.
With regard as to where the Maths actually pops up I think it would be safe to say nearly everywhere. I have encountered Maths in everyone of my subjects to date, including Human Performance!!
You’ll need to know pythagoras, SOH CAH TOA, and easy stuff like multiplication. With practise it comes easily!
If I had the choice I’d go for the boeing, I’d rather fly an aircraft than program it.
How bad will I look after telling you guys this!!! I got a D at my Physics GCSE, all you need to be able to do is pass the physics exam for the OAT selection. I had 60 hours physics tuition over the summer and it helped me no end, I ended up getting 87% on the physics paper.
OAT’s looking for good personalities ‘stable extraverts’ as they continually tell us. They are looking more to see what kind of captain you’ll make than if you are a genius. The actual maths and physics on the course are hard, but I get through it, and if I can, I’m sure plenty of others can.
For the last time EAL have NOT gone bankrupt!!! They have just let 560 staff go and are reshaping, getting rid of their 742s and some carrying on with their 732s. It’s just a major resizing excercise.
!“Maths, Help!” – My exact thoughts as I sat in a Mass and Balance lecture yesterday! But seriously, I wouldn’t worry too much about your standard, it doesn’t need to be too advanced as the maths is pretty basic and you do the same things so often that even if you don’t get it first time, you’ll work it out sooner or later.
I’m awful at Maths, I got a C at GCSE, but I’m not struggling with the Maths in groundschool, so if I can do it, I’m sure you can
EDIT: Made a stupid mistake and misread the question!!
