The assumption of fuel contamination looks quite logical to me.. but why does it automatically have to be a sabotage is still beyond me.. corrupt practices are a much easier explanation, IMHO..

    Absolutely. Heinlein’s razor.

    Although do note the addendum.

Large Russian aircraft carrier design unveiled
    CVF clone?

It’s a bit of a stretch to use that label isn’t it?!

That is no more a QE clone for deciding to use twin islands

Than Kuznetsov was an Invincible clone for using a ski jump

Or Nimitz an Ark Royal (or Triumph!) clone for using an angled deck

Sometimes the differences (like huge disparity in displacement or the actual role) are more important than a single similarity

The AW609 was a real eye opener. Incredibly quiet.

Photos? (Insert own joke about incredibly quiet and photos, but do so after posting them)

They are DSI made with composites made of aluminium and an infinite number of Mig35’s… And the PLAAF is in crisis!

    I’ll get me hat…

    One of these presumably?

yes yes, mustn’t get too excited must we.:D

A question. Does the UK always have to go through competitive process or are there example outside of UOR where they have tried out some kit and just bought it?

UORs are very bad and a very expensive way of procuring (partly because as you say only one supplier is looked at rather than the best practice three bids and choose)

They are also an admission that there was insufficient planning and foresight

But UK procurement is a comedy of errors at the best of times

Fixed price contracts are anathema to mod pe

Well maybe if the US also co-develop Meteor and buy some Typhoons they might have a chance of trumping the P1:D

    Gentlemen

We want your MPA, we also want an offset of 100%

Jointly develop Meteor ARM you say and buy flipping 100s of them Mr ally in two world wars?
Buy Typhoons and Meteors (in lower numbers) and re engine P1 with RR engines Mr fellow islanders?

What’s that stalwart ally in Cold War, you’ll finally get around to re-enginning your totemic B52s with RR motors?
Joint development on AEW version of AW609 trusted investor in Swindon and Sunderland car plants?

It’s all potentially very exciting isn’t it?
Which means that someone in HMG will Fnck it up by writing a stupid bid or making insulting jokes about burgers or raw fish

I personally think that the T/W, wing loading or thrust figures say roughly as much about flying qualities of an aircraft as bhp, torque and weight fiugures say about sports cars. They are useful indicators but don’t provide the overall information… the true know-how is in the details, fine balancing, aerodynamics and emotional value… on the paper, the Camaro ZL1 appears every bit as good as F458 Speciale and greatly superior to Carrera GT3… nothing can be further from the truth..

Back in the day, Apple was facing bankruptcy. In part because of the public perception that clock speed = power of computer. The late Mr Jobs tried (and for the most part failed) to put across the idea that the max rpm of a car engine does not equal to the speed of the car it’s powering.

Using a single metric for warplane performance similarly doesn’t tell us the whole story.

Wing loading in particular can be misleading as very high and very low wing loading can be the result of deliberate design decisions.

I don’t agree with everything you post old chap, but that there statement is bang on.

Anyway, good luck to convince me that a Lancaster should be in the “modern military aviation” part of the forum 😀

Or just admire the pretty picture on a hobby site?

    Think this’s F-15SA

    1Saludo

I’ve always been a big fan of the mighty F15

Whilst those pictures don’t show off her pretty side; there is no doubt that they both fit the topic: impressive weapon loads indeed

Did anyone ever guess that one day the F4s successor could carry two F4s worth of missiles?!

That is odd. Also, what are the stores to the right of the Shrike missiles?

The body, in comparison to the Shrikes, looks right for Martel. But without fins and with rocket boosters?! Maybe just a funny mockup from some junior techs with time on their hands?

Somebody might want to get a tin of paint out! Look at the state of the railing in front of the Generator!

I’m a bit more worried about the persistent rumour that she was launched without her screws, so that HM could do the champagne/whiskey bit on schedule. And now they just need to work just how on earth one fits screws to a ship already in the water (the only dry dock large enough to take her is too far away to just drift to)

Still could just be an oft repeated rumour I spose.
