Well…the IWM’s Director of Collections is leaving the Museum this week to take up a new position with the Museums of Scotland as their Director of Collections…at her leaving do yesterday I mentioned the Comet to her, and said I would be keeping an eye on what happens to it 🙂 So I will try and keep in contact with her and see what lies ahead for the Comet…

Steve…the only appearance I know about for sure (depending on weather and servicability of course) is this Sunday at Duxford…I seem to remember reading in one of these threads that the BBMF appeared at Derwent Reservoir one year to commemorate the Dams Raid, and so many people turned up to watch, the grass/grounds got seriously trampled upon, so the BBMF haven’t been invited back since.

You could perhaps try messaging Fluffy and see if he knows anymore.

I’m with Moggy on the eggbeaters 🙂

I like a good mixture of aircraft – piston and jet – but I like to see jets with character such as the Hunter or the Canberra as opposed to the latest American whizzy thing that roars past so fast it takes three days for your ears to stop ringing…don’t mind aerobatic aircraft – can appreciate the work the pilot is putting in but would rather see something with more of a military flavour…

In addition…there is a lovely colour photograph of Guy Gibson sat reading surrounded by poppies in Richard Holmes’ ‘The Second World War In Photographs” published by the IWM in 2000

David Kavanagh has already answered Lancman’s question regarding the colour footage of Guy Gibson…I would just like to add that the Imperial War Museum also has colour photographs of Gibson too…

Flylady…old enough to be your mom or grandmother? Ha! I don’t think so! I’m 23 for a start and I’m pretty sure that none of the other female members are much older than in their early 30s…Please don’t be so quick to write us off…the female members are here because we are aviation enthusiasts and in my opinion, the fact we are women doesn’t come into it…we are here to talk about aircraft, not lip gloss…I for one have never made a point of being a woman here – in fact it was quite a time before some members realised I was! I’m here because I enjoy aircraft, and hope that as an employee of one of the UK’s largest aviation museums I can offer something back to the board…the women here don’t hang round the board in “packs” but we don’t avoid each other in preference of the men either! I like “hanging out” with my friends here regardless of their gender…I’m not going to get snooty because some happen to be female…

Just my opinion…:)
