Hello Kev 🙂
Off the top of my head…http://www.the-battle-of-britain.co.uk/Menus/men.htm It may take some time to go through but it lists the men of the Battle of Britain, their aircraft, their squadron and what happened to them…you might find a clue if not the answer here.
The local newspaper was/is the Kent Messenger which can be found here: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/…the University of Kent at Canterbury also holds copies of the Kent Messenger (and a certain Museum where a certain Spitfire polisher works also holds copies, along with mountains of other Battle of Britain info of course :))
Hope this is of a little use to you

P.S. I sent you an email last week which it doesn’t look like you received…poxy Museum server was playing up again 🙁
I am really pleased that it is at least being swapped for something rare (well ok, about as rare as it gets really!) not something like another P-51…
I am sad that the Mossie is departing these shores, but I hope her new owner restores her fully and enjoys flying her…
I look forward to seeing the Typhoon over Duxford 🙂

Victor1…you are indeed correct concerning the walkway….it will be (approximately) where the Wings Over The Atlantic currently is (above the shop!)
Ashley
Victor1…I think Willow has given you all the info you need, but if you need any further details, just send a shout in my direction 🙂

Yak 11 fan…sorry, I must have not read your first post properly (I’m working and lurking on the board at the same time here, and the boss keeps waltzing through my office…grrrrrrrrr!) I must be going barmy regarding the replica then, as I could have sworn it’s not full size (plus a senior member of our conservation team insisted to me once that it’s not a 1:1 scale model…hmmmmmmm seem like we really know what we’re doing here at Duxford…aaaaaaargh!)
Ashley
Which director are you referring to here Sparky? Dr Fopp or Ted Inman? Regarding Mr Inman, I couldn’t possibly comment on a public forum, I would like to keep my job 😉
With regards to the aircraft intended for suspension from the ceiling…among those intended are the TSR.2, the Oxford, the Mk24 Spitfire, the Mosquito and the CF-100…and like I’ve said before, I don’t like this prospect any more than the rest of you…
Sparky…quite the opposite…I would much much much (is that enough “muches”?) rather see “Donald Duck” flying for years to come, but if the current owner INSISTS on it going on static display, I do think it would be nice to see her in the AAM, as Mustangs did operate out of Duxford with the USAAF…
With regards to the TSR.2, this particular type is one of my favourites, and one I hold close to my heart…but sadly she is destined for the ceiling in the Airspace project 😡
Yak 11 fan…nah, the P-51 in Lambeth Road is real, the “P-51” in the AAM is a 3/4 replica (or at least I’m sure it’s not a 1:1 scale, I think it’s 3/4…hmmmmmmm better go and check on that :))
Well Tempest…
In answer to your first question, yes, there are several, myself included 🙂
With regards to your second question, you’re not the only one who enjoys looking at pictures of planes…but I don’t get sexually excited over them :p…if you do, maybe you ought to get out more 😉

Just a thought, but maybe the owner is so fond of the aircraft he would rather see it go on static display than be sold to another owner who might crash it and destroy it…at least at Hendon he can “hop over the pond” and see it preserved in all it’s glory…
Although I do think it would have been nice if it had come to Duxford to go in the American Air Museum instead of that poxy 3/4 replica on a stick…grrrrrrrrrr… (Ok the IWM already has a static P-51 hanging from the ceiling in Lambeth road, but that’s not the point ;))

With regards to the Lanc, HP57 is correct regarding the luminous dials in the cockpit – the Museum is having to remove any radiactive material from aircraft that are on display, hence the closure of the Halifax. I believe work is almost completed if not done on the Halifax, so hopefully she will be reopening soon 🙂
Hi folks 🙂 I’m in a rush now, but I’ll answer questions tomorrow morning when I have more time.

Hi Neilly…unfortunately I am as in the dark as the rest of us at the moment…I have been over to Hanger 2 a couple of times this past couple of weeks to see what info I could find but nothing…I’ll try again today…
I would actually be rather surprised if she does go to the States, unless it’s just for a rebuild (although that wouldn’t really make sense given the knowledge in this country e.g. De Havilland Support, Skysport etc) From whispers into my ear, I gather the Fighter Collection were viewing her as a viable project, so not quite sure why they would suddenly decide to sell her on…
That said, I am somewhat perplexed as to why she was suddenly pulled out of the north side hanger and moved to Hanger 2…

Sadly I have to agree that an airworthy Lanc and Vulcan displaying together is just no going to happen. Regardless of whether or not XH558 flies again, I believe the official BBMF policy is not to display their aircraft with non-BBMF aircraft…
At Duxford shows (and others too I am sure) particularly with regards to the Lanc, the BBMF requests that all other participants have either landed, or are well, well out of the way…
At Flying Legends in particular, it is possible to have one aircraft displaying, another taking off, and another landing all at the same time (must be a photographer’s nightmare at the very least….”aaarrgh, do I snap that stunning pass from “Big Beautiful Doll”, or that perfectly executed landing from John Romain in the Blenheim, or that excellent opportunity for a good close up of the Tigercat as she takes off”…or is it just me?
I’ll get me coat…;)
