Eh what Sadsack? Did you mean Spitfire when you wrote Mustang? I’m confuzzled 😉
Update: Aaaaaaah, just seen your second post, now it makes sense 🙂
Hey Willow…sounds like you had a good trip, good to see you made it back to the forum 🙂
Tkyle…I’m sure you have already checked this book out, but if you haven’t, here’s a link to an excellent book:

Kev…I’m going straight to Hendon so I’ll see you there 🙂
Errrrrrrr…are we still having a raffle? WHSmith was out of raffle ticket books (yes, really!) last week and I’ve not had a chance to go back for some…
So…can somebody get some tickets by tomorrow, or shall we shelve the raffle till the next meet (perhaps at IWM Lambeth Road where we can book a room or something…that is not as dodgy as it sounds, I promise! 😉 )
See some of you tomorrow

Kev and Snapper have said it all really, I could not have put it better myself.
But I would just like to add something…kmar, you want to create “a valuable resource for every warbird enthusiast” (your exact words), which implies that the Flypast forum is the exact opposite of that…well I think you’ll find that the Key Publishing’s aviation boards are a valuable resource for every warbird enthusiast – we are a varied bunch of people from all walks of life, and many of us here myself included, work in aviation, work in Museums, operate, maintain and restore warbirds, work for various aviation publications, etc etc…then there are the enthusiasts who read and read and read, study, carry out thorough detailed research for themselves and for other people, spends hours visiting museums, archives, former airfield sites, plus we have a number of excellent photographers who take publication worthy photographs…I could go on…
The point I am making is that we share our knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with each other, providing assistance where we can…now that makes us a valuable resource for every warbird enthusiast in my opinion…
So is it all systems go for this Saturday (8th) then?
If I get to Hendon and you’ve all decided to stay in bed instead I’ll be well miffed…;)
I’M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!
Whoo hoo! Finally got my password sorted out (no thanks to the IWM server which held the mail up ~smacks server~)
Good to see familiar faces :p
RE: Forum upgrade
~lol~ at the ducktape 😛
RE: TFC Mosquito
I haven’t heard anything as yet…although I did have the good fortune to see her close up on the northside when she emerged from storage on Tuesday…damn typical though I didn’t have my camera with me that day…grrrrrrr!
Although I would be gutted if she was sold to someone in the States…if they then rebuilt her to flying condition and actually flew her, that at least would be keeping the Mosquito spirit alive…
RE: Meet up No. 2 – Saturday 1st March. Who is up for it?
I’m up for it…
The 8th March that is 😉
RE: Mustangs – Confession Time
Glenn…don’t worry, it could only JUST be seen :)…I was scrutinising her rather hard (and it did have to be pointed out to me by the ground crew)
Was it a full paint job then when your dad reprayed the P-51? I was only going on what the ground crew told me regarding the paint scheme…
~Muttering about people with Mustangs named after them and stomping off home~ 😉

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-02-03 AT 01:50Â PM (GMT)]Steve…you are right, the aircraft once known as Candyman/Moose is still owned and operated by the OFMC as part of the Breitling Fighters team…according to one of the OFMC ground grew, when the OFMC bought the aircraft Mark did not like the Candyman/Moose artwork and a interim paint scheme was applied…a couple of years ago I had the opportunity to get up close to the aircraft and if I looked at the right angle, I could just make out the Candyman/Moose artwork underneath the current paint scheme.
Of course, Candyman/Moose is now known as “Ferocious Frankie”…
Now why doesn’t someone christen their P-51 “Alluring Ashley” or something?…:P
RE: Free entry to air museums.
Merlin…I’ll see what I can do 🙂
RE: Free entry to air museums.
gbwez1…thank you for replying and supplying the link…according to the Department’s website, charges apply to some categories of visitors to “specialist” branches such as Duxford – now as I understand it, Duxford is regarded by the Department of Culture as a specialist Museum, not a national one (although it is of course part of the Imperial War Museum, which is confusing)…therefore Duxford is allowed to charge entry…
Although the Imperial War Museum has five branches, these branches pretty much operate independently of each other, operating under the Imperial War Museum “brand name” as such (hope that makes sense) Therefore the branches should be/are considered as separate Museums in themselves, and as Duxford, HMS Belfast and Cabinet War Rooms more specific in their content, are not neccessarily regarded as national museums and are therefore exempt from the Government’s Free Admissions Scheme.
Again, my own opinions/views.
Ashley

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-02-03 AT 11:19Â AM (GMT)]Gentlemen…this morning is the first time I have checked this thread for a while, and I have just had a happy five minutes updating myself on this heartwarming and inspirational thread (and I mean that sincerely)…well done to all those involved…
I just searched the databases of the seven IWM Collections Departments to see if we had any pictures of P/O Moxey, or anything in general (you never know what gems you will find here) No luck so far I’m afraid, but I’ll search again later with the names of his crew, OTU and Upper Heyford…I’ll see if I come up with anything…
