RE: Free entry to air museums.
With regards to free admission concerning IWM sites, IWM North in Manchester is also free…
With regards to free entrance at Duxford, gbwez1, can you give me a link to evidence of when the government “has very clearly promised to remove admission charges at IWM Duxford” please? Duxford, the Cabinet War Rooms and HMS Belfast are set up differently from Lambeth Road and IWM North and are pretty much self-funded, generally relying on the money raised from admission charges, airshows, and retail (our on-site shops and mail order)
I know that Duxford is not the cheapest of days out, but time and time again our visitors tell us “what great value for money”…if you want to visit Duxford on a regular basis how about a “Friends of Duxford” pass? For under £30 you can visit Duxford as many times in a year, and judging by the ever growing number of F.O.D. members, many enthusiasts are doing exactly this…
I know we are not all flush (I’m certainly not!) and the Museum does offer concessions to students/OAPs/disabled visitors etc…
As always, these are my opinions, not to be taken as the “official Museum line”…

Thank you for posting this, Moggy…Wing Commander Conway and the many like him will not be forgotten…
RE: Another meet up ? See some ‘planes and have a chat / pie / pint etc
1st weekend in March sounds good to me 🙂
RE: Which airshow performer do you miss the most.
Aircraft: Mosquito
Pilot: Mark and Hoof in particular
RE: What Do You Eat And Drink At Airshows?
I like to make an effort for airshows so…
Rolls or baguettes with smoked salmon, or egg and bacon (pity the poor sod sat next to me :)) or chicken, lime pickle and watercress, or roast beef and horseradish, or other scrummy fillings…some fancy crips like Walkers Sensations or Kettle Chips…celery…something sweet like scones and jam, or carrot cake, or flapjacks…washed down with a gin and tonic or glass of wine…
~Drooling all over the keyboard~ 😉
RE: Duxford projects current status
Futurshox…I’ll go and have a look nex time I’m in Hanger 1…maybe I ought to borrow Snapper’s stepladder so I can reach the whole of the wing 😉
RE: Duxford projects current status
Thanks for these pics Jo 🙂 I knew the Canada had trundled down to Hanger 5, but have not seen her being stripped down yet…many a time I have dusted her in Hanger 4 and thought she was deserving of some attention and now she’s got it 🙂

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-01-03 AT 03:24 PM (GMT)]Snapper…IWM London small? Hee Hee! 🙂 It has expanded dramatically in the past 10 years…I’ve visited Lambeth Road something like 10 times and still not looked at everything properly…the Holocaust Exhibition in itself requires a good couple of hours to go round (it is also very sobering and thought provoking)
If we did IWM London later in the year, I could possibly arrange something special for us there…not saying what as I want to make some enquiries first…:)

Sounds like a great idea, count me in…although I wonder if it would be too much doing both in 1 day? I would love to go to Hendon as it is also years for me since I last visited there…plus if we did IWM Lambeth Road later in the year, it gives me time to get my thinking cap on re a treat or two there 😉
RE: What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?
Willow…I seem to remember seeing this formation at the Spitfire Show 1996…I think I have some pics somewhere, I’ll see if I can pull them out…

RE: What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?
Damian…to be fair to Phil, he didn’t call anyone any names…
I agree with the sentiments expressed by Phil and Scully regarding how lucky we are to have Flying Legends…to me a good show includes a variety of aircraft (although I have particular favourites, I do appreciate the work that goes into putting all the appearing aircraft up in the air…now I’m not a huge fan of the Skyraider either but I still appreciate it being “there”…hope that makes sense) To be honest, I don’t mind what appears at Flying Legends as long as long as we have a safe airshow with no accidents or losses…I’m just glad to be there (correct me if I’m wrong guys, but I think this was the point that Phil and Scully were kinda trying to make)
