Oh and, I do not believe any of us in the Film and Video Archive who catalogue material have media studies degrees…100 years plus cataloguing experience between us maybe…

And for every film that might have a comment from the cataloguer that bites, there will be at least two films with a positive analysis from the cataloguer…

Nice to see whoever does the IWM film wrie-ups dosn’t feel the need to hide their personal views in the article – you can hear the sneer from here! meeedya studies grad by any chance?

    Propoganda? It’s a recruiting film!

No, someone with a dry sense of humour…

So you don’t think a recruitment film can be seen as a piece of propaganda then? Not a criticism, I am genuinely interested in what you think on this (and others too)

It may be of interest to you guys (and gals!) to know that the IWM holds what I remember to be the originals of this item made for the COI, which have been recently restored: http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe?AC=GET_RECORD&XC=/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpcgi.exe&BU=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iwmcollections.org.uk%2FqryFilm.asp&TN=Uncat&SN=AUTO32368&SE=1042&RN=0&MR=500&TR=0&TX=1000&ES=0&CS=1&XP=&RF=FilmResults&EF=&DF=FilmDetailed&RL=0&EL=0&DL=0&NP=1&ID=&MF=&MQ=&TI=0&DT=&ST=0&IR=36731&NR=0&NB=0&SV=0&BG=0&FG=0&QS=

Albert…there are a number of Air Ministry/COI films available on DVD, maybe this one will be added to the list one day…

I guess the bourbon budget was getting too high?

    I blame Moggy…

Is it just Duxford there won’t be a Flypast enclosure, or other shows as well? (Think Flypast has had enclosures at Waddington and Elvington before, am I right?)

Right, enough now. As the only mod present at this moment in time I am calling time on this thread. My reason for locking the thread has nothing to do with the issue of the IWM’s airshow prices and what they might or not be, but in response to the appalling behaviour displayed by certain persons.

Personal attacks on other members are not, and never will be tolerated.

As an IWM staff member I withdraw from this thread now and hand over to Moggy and Frank before compromising myself.

Out of interest, when did you speak to the IWM Rob Beard? Today? And were the words attributed to IWM staff above the exact words used to you? I would be interested to know either way…

Mr Beard…you are correct in that the leaflet you have scanned for us contains incorrect information. The correct prices for disabled adults and their carers was confirmed to staff yesterday (by Head of Marketing) as £10 per person for each airshow, or £8 in advance, as already stated by several members.

Now please calm down, there is no need for flinging insults.

Learnt to drive in a Peugot 205 and 106…the 106 (which was brand new) had an off-centre steering wheel, as did others I later looked at when looking for a car – found the off-centre steering wheel did my shoulders in so avoided.

Somewhere there is a photo of my beloved Focus, probably in one of my holiday albums 😀 Maybe the car should have a photo album of her own “Places where I have parked”.

A330-300…with regards to a good first car…as you’ve worked out already, the smaller the better (particularly insurance wise!) to start off with…How about a second hand new model Fiesta? I believe the new model was launched in March 2002, so you should be able to find a reasonably priced one in good nick. Ford have (in my opinion!) raised their game in the past 10 years, both in terms of design and in terms of quality, and their cars generally prove to be good runners. Ideally I would say get a Focus – they really are easy cars to drive, hence a number of driving schools including the AA use them. However, when I bought mine at the age of 23, with one year’s no claims bonus and a clean license, it cost me just over £600 to insure (it’s a 1.8 Zetec) So I shudder to think what a 17 year old lad would get quoted 😀 But the Fiestas are really just baby Focus’s, worth a thought?

    Raw steak? Bleeeeeeeeeeeeurgh!

However, a nicely done sirloin steak with hot chips and a large crunchy salad on the side is another matter entirely :diablo:

I do love vegetatian food and have quite an extensive vegetarian dish collection, but I am afraid I am rather partial to a nice bit of bacon…or chicken…or steak…or sausages (decent ones mind)…
