I must be in the minority here…Hawkinge is one of my favourite museums – I love it for the wealth of material and information it packs in to a relatively small space, and for it’s Kent/Battle of Britain connection. When I visit museums I personally prefer to absorb what’s on display in front of me, rather than peering at it through a lens, trying to get the best shots I can. It doesn’t matter to me that I cannot take photographs, I would rather learn more about the Battle of Britain and the men and women involved.
On the past two occasions I visited, there were a number of copies of photographs taken by the Museum for sale, which I thought was a good compromise.
Just my thoughts on the matter…
I’m a laaaaaaaaaady! 😀
(No, really, a genuine one ;))
“This is a local shop…for local people…”
Everytime I look at your avatar Ian, I think of that pig…;)
Roundabouts scare me silly, all those people coming at you, lord, I can’t imagine what I’ll do when I have to face one of those suckers on the A3 by myself or something. Watch out you Southern Englanders… :p
Two words for you my dear…
Hemel Hempstead :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:
9lb 10.5 ounces?
Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! :diablo:

Congratulations Tim and family! 🙂
Great day at Brooklands on Friday (apart from the 4 hour journey home – first words to husband on my return home – “where’s the ******* corkscrew?”) Was really good to catch up with some familiar faces, and finally meet some other not so familiar faces – I really enjoyed myself, thank you Kev for inviting me 🙂
Oh and Melv…sod it, the bloody thing’s stuck again…;)
Quick query for my fellow travellers – I will be coming round the M25 anti-clockwise – the AA website recommends leaving the M25 at Jct 11 and heading to Brooklands via the A318. Do you agree, or am I better on continuing to Jct 10 (the A3 jct) and making my way to Brooklands that way?
What will you do now Steve to keep your image, buy an MX5 ?
Hang on a minute Ian, Steve’s not a middle aged, over blow dried, leopard skin coat wearing tart 😀 :diablo: 😉
Don’t you think that Duxford would benefit from the traditional design of “glass house” as featured in Guzzineil’s photo? I guess it would be more roomy. Discuss…
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
~Bang bang bang bang bang bang~
~Rubs forehead~ 😉
Seriously though, I believe the current structure is there for practical reasons, but I’m sure there are other Duxfordites with a better idea than me 🙂
I think Ian has hit the nail on the head re the Rover 25 – next to even the old model Focus it looks outdated, and next to the new Focus, Golf and Astra looks about as streamlined as a warthog. If Rover had made more of an effort to capture this end of the market, I wonder if they would be in as deep doodah as they are now? I am not saying that doing so would have saved their skins good and proper, but they might have more of a chance…
Nice photos met24 🙂
Or maybe he’s just enjoying life away from the computer?
Jonathan…see if you can get hold of a Duxford guidebook from the mid 1990s (I have a couple you can borrow if necessary – along with some notes on something called, errr…what was it now? Thermal imaging! That’s it :diablo: ) There used to be an index in the back of the guide of Duxford’s aircraft static and airworthy, and their serial numbers.
I think what you are proposing is a good idea – I know you are not proposing to rival Martin’s site, I think it would be particularly handy for people wanting to know what aircraft the MUSEUM has, which I think was your point at the beginning?
Congratulations Peter! 🙂
Merlin70…sounds like you need to place an order for a nice vindaloo with extra chilli 😉
