Ashley, a one time Mod here and famed Spitfire polisher at Duxford set about it with her dusters shortly after it was put in place.

The result was the special matt and rather dusty looking finish being adorned with lots and lots of yellow fibres.

I think she retired quickly and quietly from the scene and only ever admitted it here.

    Moggy

    Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

In my defence I knew nothing about the SR71, and was just handed a yellow fluffy duster and told to do some dusting 😮 I couldn’t really see the top of the aircraft, but immediately realised that there was a problem, so stopped, picked the fluff off and then beat a hasty retreat! 😀 The surface of the aircraft felt a bit like sandpaper, which knowing nothing about the aircraft at the time came as a bit of a surprise!

Fortunately for the SR71, these days I am more likely to be found slaving over a hot film can…

    (Oh and hello Moggy ;))

    Cats messing in your garden.

Collect said cat poo and post carefully through owners front door. Do this on a daily basis and I am sure that the owners will find a way of convincing their cat to desist from crapping in your garden. Either that or offer the owners a catalogue showing the price of cat litter and litter trays and instructions on how they are to be used.

Knowing my luck, the neighbours would just post it back again…

I am surprised more “Museum” types don’t haunt the forums as the ideas I collect are great.

    You’d be surprised…;)

Get your head round something contemporary, theres so much to listen to out there.

Quite agree. There is some great new music out there, as there are plenty of great timeless songs that have last 30, 40 years or more, and still sound as good today as they did when they were first released.

Most recent purchases (on iTunes…some current tracks, some older):

Bat For Lashes – What’s A Girl To Do
Dragonette – Take It Like A Man
    Elliot Minor – Jessica
Garbage – The World Is Not Enough
    Roxette – Almost Unreal
Tyler James – Why Do I Do
Jean Knight – Mr Big Stuff
Jools Holland feat. Stereophonics – Revolution
Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse – Valerie
Avenged Sevenfold – The Beast And The Harlot
Dr Hook – When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman
Jimmy Cliff – The Harder They Come
Timbaland – Give It To Me

I’ve managed to get my gf excited about the prospect of seeing Vulcan in the flesh, have made her watch numerous DVDs and You Tube clips! I’ve also tried to explain this aircraft to females in terms they’d understand – “The feeling you’ll get as the throttles get whanged wide open will be the same as a thousand Rampant Rabbits!”

    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

    Hi Andy 🙂

Yes, I know the painting you are thinking of, and the artist’s name is Brian Petch. Cannot remember the name of the painting off the top of my head, but I have a large stash of Brian Petch cards at home featuring his prints, and I am sure this is amongst them. I will have a look later and see.
