Additional: claims that “someone I spoke to at Duxford once said blah blah…” won’t wash. Just because someone at Duxford said so, doesn’t make it true, and believe me, some of the tales I have heard from some of the staff and private operators are simply that!
Oh dear…
Some good points raised here, and some utter rubbish too.
Some of you would be advised to get your facts straight or provide solid evidence of some of the claims you have made. No concrete evidence? Don’t post such allegations in public then.
And before someone starts howling self-righteously about moderation by an IWM employee, I won’t be locking this thread or editing posts, I’ll leave that to the discretion of the other mods and the Webmaster.
The original poster decided to delete the thread, which was followed as mentioned by Mike J by a number of threads querying the fate of this thread.
As the original thread has been locked, can we move on now please? 🙂
P.S. Pete, there were no insults flung at you, just reasoned responses 😉
Many congratulations Mr and Mrs Bruce 😀 and welcome to the world Ellis Faye 🙂
(9lb12oz? Ouch!)
What on earth did she drive into it with? The entire land warfare hall?????
*Bats eyelashes*
Well it seems that a Ford Focus is more than a match for the likes of the mighty Chieftain…
*Bats eyelashes again and reverts to looking pretty vacant*
eBay selling is, imho, for mugs!
And yes, I have been described as a large coffee cup occasionally!
If eBay selling is for mugs, then I must be a fully classified moron by now having made over £2000 on eBay in the last year just selling bits and pieces lying around the house :diablo:
Having sold a car with just such a statement on there, I don’t follow the logic.
Did the description go something like “one red volvo with cracked number plate for sale…”?
Bruce…points noted and understood. Informed speculation is one thing, idle speculation is another, and by this I mean the type of comments you rightly suggest should be avoided.
My original point about idle speculation was prompted by previous records of speculation on these forums surrounding previous incidences, some of which has been pretty unsavoury and libellous.
I echo moocher’s thanks to Duxford’s fire and rescue service. All good men, each and everyone of them.
Manston Airport…the T-33 is one of my favourite jets. However, any thoughts of the future of the aircraft just pale into insignificance with the knowledge that the two men on board are still with us. My love of historic aircraft stems from a deep appreciation of the men and women who flew and maintained them in service. As much as I love the aircraft, the men and women who continue to fly them today are more important than the aircraft.
Pssssst! Moggy, behave yourself!
As others have already posted, there has been an incident involving the T-33 at Duxford. The crew are safe.
Please refrain from any idle speculation about the cause of the crash etc. Any such posts and the thread will be locked.
Just be thankful that the two on board are safe.
Vulcan903 (or anyone else who can answer this question)…what kind of interest do the operators envisage for European airshows? Any? Lots? Some? Just wondering how popular the Vulcan is outside the UK.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
*Runs for the hills*
I am sure Peter Jackson will make a good film, which will stand up well on its own as a good war film, I just cannot see what the Hollywood fascination with remakes is. Why not make another film about Bomber Command?
But good luck to Mr Jackson anyway 🙂 I wonder if he reads these forums? 🙂
*Pondering the idea of an Utterly Butterly Vulcan with a wing walker on each wing*
Seriously though, I am glad to hear that the engineers and others who have worked hard on the Vulcan will not be out of a job come the end of today. As an employee of one of the UK’s largest aviation museums, I do sometimes take offence when we are all tarred with the same brush when someone makes a mistake. Consequently I can see why some of those close to the Vulcan project i.e. the men (and women presumably? 😉 ) who have been doing all the physical work, get somewhat peeved when they seem to encounter nothing but negativity, or get tarred with the same brush regarding someone else’s mistakes (or lack of activity…) The publicity machine for this project may well have been in need of addressing at times, but this is no reflection on the hard work of the engineers and co.
Good luck!
P.S. I wonder what Germaine Greer will make of a flying Vulcan? Never seen a Vulcan flying in the flesh, but should imagine it makes the Lancaster sound like a Tiger Moth in comparision :diablo:
18 minutes and no comments?
Don’t tell me you’re all tired of talking about the Vulcan already…
I’ll do my Bjork impression if someone doesn’t have something to say in a minute :diablo:
It would though prevent yet more ill informed potentially libelous, childish tittle tattle from being added to the previous out pourings of the obviously moderator sponsored anti XH-558 thread.
Perhaps a clean sheet thread thread would allow a period of reflection by all?
Interesting point about the clean sheet thread idea.
It seems that we mods are damned if we close threads – “restricting discussion” etc etc, and damned if we leave them open.
Thread temporarily locked while I discuss the notion of a clean sheet thread with the other moderators. Thread will either reopen, or a new thread will be created sometime this afternoon. I would appreciate your patience in the matter good people!
*UPDATE* A new discussion thread has been opened here: http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?p=998159#post998159 . This thread will remain locked. Please feel free to continue your discussions (minus the insults) in the new thread. I believe that keeping this thread open will only perpetuate the bitterness and illfeeling that seems to have dogged it. Maybe this can be avoided in the new thread? Well a girl can hope!
