Hope you get better soon Adonis 🙂
Kev has said everything I wanted to say, but again far more eloquently than I could have put it.

Ashley,
in defence of DOUGHNUT, I think it does matter whether it’s you own photograph or not. Surely that’s the whole point in owning your own camera. If not, you could just buy books full of photos, and not bother going to see real aeroplanes at all.
Well personally I go to see real aeroplanes for the sake of seeing them. I don’t take that many photos of the aircraft I am visiting as I would rather concentrate on the aircraft themselves and the displays around them then fiddling with the camera.
As for the museum, everyone wants something different from a place like this. My fiancee would be totally uninterested in looking at ‘just another aeroplane’, but would be fascinated by the material and history surrounding it. In my original comment I was not suggesting that the material should not be there, purely that it should IF POSSIBLE be arranged so as not to obscure the aeroplanes. I realise that space is often a big issue with small museums.
As you have not visited Manston, I’ll give you a brief description. Originally only the Spitfire was put on display, with a small building built to accomodate her (which is not much bigger than the aircraft) When it was decided to put the Hurricane on display, a second (slightly larger) building was built for the Hurricane which links through to the Spitfire Building (think two big squares overlapping) There are no hanger doors so to speak, so to put the aircraft on display outside would mean dismantling them into VERY small pieces 🙂 The size of the buildings means there is relatively little space to cram a wealth of material in, which neccessitates putting some of this material around the aircraft, thus getting in the way of those who want that “perfect” shot.
Doughnut…if you have never visited Manston, then you would have no idea (unless someone told you) of the layout and size of things, so I apologise if I came across as sarcastic in my last post…on the other hand however, if you have not visited Manston and seen what it’s like, perhaps you could refrain from making comments like “it should be the Museum making an apology”, that just got my back up, sorry.
Ashley
Joe…hmmmmm…it does look just a bit familiar 🙂
With all due respect Doughnut, have you actually visited Manston? If you have, you will no doubt realise that it might be just a teeny weeny bit of a problem with regards to getting the Spitfire and Hurricane out…
As for the Museum offering an apology…for what? Putting stuff in the way of that “perfect shot”? Oh dear…:( When I was at university in Canterbury, I spent some time with the Musuem as a volunteer (had hoped to make it a regular thing, but studies got in the way :() All the volunteers I worked with put their heart and soul into that place, and I think if anyone them were/are to read these comments complaining about objects getting “in the way” of photos, I am sure they would be somewhat miffed…can’t you just enjoy what is there and take it for what it is?
With regards to “perfect” shots in the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial buildings – it is possible to buy postcards of the Spit and Hurri on display, minus all the bits and pieces – does it really matter if it’s a postcard, not a photo you have taken yourself?

🙁 Sorry to hear about this (But at least yourself and Mrs Moggy are ok, I wouldn’t be a happy Spitfire polisher if something happened to you two)

ELP…I’m working on it :p
ELP…I’m working on it :p
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Hoping that this is due to something like there is a limit to the number of images that can be posted in a thread (sorry to the computer buffs if this sounds a load of rubbish – I can do computer basics and that’s about it!)
It was one of the best (if not the best) threads I have ever seen on this board…I cannot see what could be deemed offensive etc about it
