The early VIIIs had the pointy wing tips, too.
Hmm. I’m still of the opinion its a head on attack at a 109 Gustav with the edge of the supercharger scoop and oil cooler showing. But I’ll freely admit it it looks more and more like a clip winged Spit with a slipper tank the longer I look.
The second gun camera photo (#8) is unmistakably a Spitfire……..oops!
Bf109. Late Gustav series looks like.
Are they sending the metal BBD back to Lambeth or will she replace the plastang in the AAM?
Weren’t 129 aircraft used for part of the filming of that wartime ATA film around then? I forget it’s title. The one with the american volunteer and a rather impressive display by Alex Henshaw? Might explain the code discrepancy. Then again, my own log bog has a few transposed serials in it!
Ferry Pilot! That was it!
Happy Birthday, Tim! Hope you have a wonderful day and a merry Christmas.
Ah yeah. I forgot GMKIV pranged at Denham. Too painful to think about after all that work!
Is this aircraft still extant?
Yes. Sort of. It suffered a wheels up landing at Duxford over a decade ago and is slowly being restored to airworthiness as a Mk.I.
…. a numpty anorak who doesn’t know what he is blithering on about….
My ears are burning! 😀
The latter part of the display was enhanced by some formation flying.
Name each of the aircraft in this formation. Extra points for complete ID.
Three DR.I ‘Tripe Hounds’, a D.VIIf and two D.VIIIs.
Plenty of Gannets around and they look the part too.
As skeptical as I am about the Burma digs, part of me can’t but grin at the amount of crow that will have to be eaten if they find one. 😀
A bit of fun…but it does contrast with the reverence shown to anything to do with Bomber Command, and particularly 617 Squadron, here.
But I do hope you’re not teaching the younger generation here any silly stereotypes. 🙂
More Hollywood cliche sarcasm than anything. The proposed Dambusters remake receives a fair amount of stick too!
Looks like an extremely battered Pegasus. I’m struggling to think of what it’s from if it’s four engined.
May I say, Robert, what an excellent project! Best of luck with it!
