Location,Location,Location
The location of todays (Thursdays) display was roughly halfway between Norwich and Great Yarmouth if that helps.
A bloke working near me spotted me watching and came over ,
“What do you think it is ” he said
“Not sure” I replied
“Well ,its got the wings of a Hurricane, and the engine of a Spitfire!!!” he said
Couldn’t believe what I was hearing
Didn’t know what to say except “Not even close mate!!”

Don’t worry about it,I slipped up this year and left advance booking until day after closing date.
Thing is though you still have to queue and pass through ticket offices so the only real advantage in my experience is the few pounds that are saved.
Best thing to do is try and get there early to avoid the queues.

Legends tickets

It also says that terms and conditions apply, these are shown on the website or you could try phoning the ticket hotline (01223)835000
You might be interested to know that there is closing date for advance tickets for the battle of britain show on 10th & 11th Sept which is 12th Aug.
You can save £2.00 per person on any ticket category,
Hope this is of interest,

Another pointless thread !
Nothing confirmed until the day ,all the lists in the world confirm nothing.T
the mechanical gremlins,or weather for participants from France ,Sweden etc can still upset plans ,why waste time on a pointless thread like this ?

Hi Janie
I wasn’t aware of this forum at that time, wonder now if there were any other forum members there ???
It really was a good day out ,my father had retired from flying once he’s friend sold the Chipmunk that my father had flown actively for about 20 years.Father hadn’t flown one for about 10 yearsand this day out would provide him with an opportunity to get back in one.
When it was fathers turn to fly,he climbed into the back seat and strapped in ,the pilot introduced himself as Bill Murton (sadly lost in the Firefly)
Bill asked had he flown before, father wasted no time in sharing memories of a 20 year relationship with the then earliest airworthy Chipmunk surviving
(G-AKDN).
After take off Bill said “you have control” and father flew the Chipmunk almost until touchdown.
Both father and Bill climbed out of the aircraft, once Bill had shut it down and as they shook hands Bill said “well you haven’t forgot how have you, that was great!!”
Father was really pleased and often reminds me of that day, later he was really upset to learn of Bill’s tragic accident at Duxford.

R N H F open days
I went to the previous open day (2000 I think ??)held just after VR930 had been diagnosed with having to have engine out again 🙁
Firefly was completing restoration ,I was looking forward to seeing her fly again 🙁
Was a very good day out ,I flew in a Tiger ,and my father flew in a Portugese liveried Chipmunk, very good lectures ,tasty barbeque tight flying display
from the participating aircraft.
I guess I shouldn’t promote it in case I want to go again 😀
But the RNHF need every penny so I would recommend it and go again if possible 🙂

Re ‘Battle’
I never pay much attention to the critics.
I watched the 100 greatest war films and there were films in there I wouldn’t give time on television.
For what its worth ‘Battle’ is personally my all time favourite film ,and although there are historical faults (aircraft types /marks etc) I think its a great film, with Goodwins stirring musical score to set the scene for a critical time in Great Britains history.
I certainly don’t think remaking it authentically with computer generated images would result in a better film.As previously stated it was an ariel battle and while the dogfights are not easy to follow ,I would guess that’s how it was,

Why should Lowestoft’s show suffer a gap when they can fill it? What do you want them to do, hold a ten minute silence?
Damien , I never suggested anyone should leave any gaps as you ignorantly quote, just a little more sympathy for the operators wouldn’t have hurt .
They just couldn’t really care less about Sally B’s plight and I suggest if you want to adopt the attitude you have, put your hand in your pocket and contribute towards the ‘free’ show that the locals are constantly being hassled to pay for.Get YOUR sorry a**e over to Lowestoft and put your cash in the collection buckets that most spectators seem to avoid, so that people from all over Norfolk and Suffolk can come and watch for free.Put your money where your big mouth is !!!
My feeling is that if the organisers cant find a way of making it pay without continually begging to the locals then cancel it.
I pay good money to go to the airshows of my choice, and have done for thirty years. If those freeloaders who come to Lowestoft once a year to take advantage of a free show put their hands in their pockets then maybe the operators might find it all a little less difficult.

Sally B on look east
I saw the news article highlighting the insurance problems surrounding Sally B on look east the other night.
There was also a very small piece in yesterdays Eastern Daily Press,
It really iritates me that they go to a load of trouble to report these problems ,highlight them on the programme etc,and then miss out the details that really matter like, for instance, that it will cost an EXTRA £1000 per hour to fly ,and not just £1000 per hour as quoted.I reckon people who don’t know, won’t really care if it cost £1000 per hour because thats not much for such a big aircraft,so why are the operators complaining ???
Then to finish the article good old Lowestoft seafront airshow organisers helped out by saying they would just get another act to fill the slot ,very helpful and sympathetic to Sally B ‘s plight ,I think not .

I would think Mark Hanna must have had accumulated a good few hours also, but one name that people seem to have forgotten is Tony Bianchi from Personal Plane Services. He looked after and flew the late Patrick Lindsay’s mk1 when based at Booker for many years ,I should think he has also flown MH434 on occasions during her time based at Booker .
He is bound to have flown others too given he’s experience and PPS’s background .

Re John ‘Jeff’ Hawke
I ,ve seen Hawke flying a B.25 and as has been said it certainly gives you something to think about (or worry about!!)
In fact the Biggin Hill 82 & 83 video of mine which is circulating amongst the forum members does infact show B.25 Big Bad Bonnie being absolutely caned by Mr Hawke at treetop height .
But I think the Mosquito display he did at RAF Wattisham just prior to being demobbed is almost legendary .
I’ve never seen any film or photographs of the performance ,but i did read a bit about it somewhere ,and judging by the account i read i wish i could have seen it.Anyone know anything about it ??

Nuclear power was considered
Just to confirm that nuclear power was considered for the SR.45.
2002 was the fiftieth anniversary of the SR.45 ‘s first flight and a 1hour video was produced to commemorate it .There is some great footage of it being flown and under construction ‘you should see the footage /shots of them out of the water, the size of them is really seen then’.
The ‘fly by wire’ systems used to control the flying surfaces is also described along with many other details.
I got a copy from the producers although i don’t know if they have any more,

where next??
Chris,
Send the video to Ashley please,
hopefully you can arrange that between yourselves,I’m assuming from previous posts on this thread that Ashley still wants to see it,if not who ever is on the list who still wants to see it and hasn’t seen it yet,
Thanks Steve
Over the top mark 12??? I don’t think so !!
I see you can’t post a strong opinion without it being edited , so how about finding it for me then mark 12 as you felt the need to edit .
That video was lent in good faith and someone is abusing trust and preventing others from seeing it .Like i said it doesn’t really matter to me just principle and a good job i didn’t lend my only copy .
If you don’t like my opinion ,you find the video and send it to me ,otherwise leave my posts alone ,so the guilty party can read it .
Steve964
Thanks Robbo
Thanks Robbo for offering to provide me with a copy of my own video.
Luckily I did not make the mistake of lending out the original(I still have that)
so I do not need to take up your kind offer.
I am very disapointed that the members who wanted to see it haven’t yet seen it ,I am also just a little pi**ed of that no one has reported not receiving it ,so someone on the list is holding on to it,or has not passed it on to the next on the list.
OK I don’t really need the tape back ,but there are members who wanted to see it,and it would be courteous to make the effort so those that wanted to see it had seen it and then sent it back, its a matter of principle really,so whoever has got it etc etc.
