Thanks anyway, I was amazed how few people there were at the event, but then again I’d not seen any publicity for the event. Shame really.
With the exception of the ex-Walton dash -7 model (because it rarely if ever flies/is seen), most of the ex-UK Corsairs are doing great over here
Other than the former Warbids of Great Britain Machine which if I’m not mistaken was the one which hit Howard Pardue’s Bearcat at Oshkosh some years ago and destroyed itself. I know at the time the pilot survived the crash however I have heard nothing since, has anyone else??
Did anybody happen to get any pics of the Mustangs arrival or departure???
I think you might!!!!
As for the T33, I doubt the North Weald example was flying today, but miracles cold happen!!!
One Mustang returned about 18.45
So Mr.Rhodes heres a chance for you to be a big Hero with your fellow UK Warbird Guys, why don’t you step right up and purchase the Firefly and bring it back home, before some Aussie or even worse Bloody Yank buys and puts it back into the Air.
Crazymainer
This being the former Royal Australian Navy Firefly which was origionally imported into the UK by Sir William Roberts in the 1970’s. Following a change of ownership in the UK it eventually ended up in America in the mid 80’s and has passed around a few owners since then with very little having been done to it.
Fair chance I may have a drive over to have a look then, thanks for the info.
Any idea what time it will depart Cambridge tomorrow????
I don’t think you would be wrong!!!!
Old Crow is the SHF machine, it and the A26 were last heard of in Europe awaiting an engine or two.
I for one believe it is as important to preserve the heritage of all nations in the UK as it illustrates the whole spectrum of aviation. There are many people working hard behind the scenes to preserve many different aspects of aviation, none of which are any more or any less important than each other.
To effectively tell somebody that they are working on the wrong aircraft because it’s not British will do nothing to encourage them or others from continuing in any form of preservation.
I’ve seen bins of Hurricane widgets that didn’t exist, but do, and are avaliable thanks to HR.
Don’t forget the Engineering Company who have produced many of these widgets for HR 😀
Yes, following it’s overhaul at Duxford it emerged in silver RAAF markings before taking up it’s BBD markings for Legends 96.
Yep, that’s the scheme I was thinking of.
I believe it was a Spitfire at a Duxford show in the late 70’s, we were driving along the A505 at the time.
