The paintwork on Detriot Miss looked to be very good, more permanent than temporary. Now I could be completely off base here but as it was in the 361st scheme with a yellow nose and a Breightling Fighters badge on the side perhaps it was repainted as part of the ‘reserve’ fleet. Last seem this Mustang had become Old Crow again but this time in Olive Drab rather than silver. I for one thought that the Detriot Miss scheme looked very nice.

Yep, the Hurricane left the UK during late July / early August 2002. It was a lovely looking aircraft when once it was finished, way better than what they sent over.

    😀 😉 :p

There was a proposal of a similar set up some years ago using some classic 2 seat aircraft, other than an ad in Pilot it never got a great deal further in the press due to unforseen circumstances, however it was a genuine attempt to form a fantastic syndicate to operate some great aircraft (most of which had already been bought).

I know nothing of these guys, but I feel they should be given a chance.

You’d be suprised whats going on out there that nobody knows about. There is always the possibility that a warbird is being worked on behind closed doors.

What a sad aircraft, looked at it on Sunday, can’t see it flying any time soon.

I think XA853 was scrapped in the 60’s, you may be thinking of XA847 which the RAF Museum disposed off to a private owner who in turn parted with it to Marine Salvage. It’s now being cared for by a private owner in Suffolk.

I’ve only ever flown over Hibaldstow, it’s around North Lincolnshire, not far to the west of Humberside airport. They do a lot of parachuting there I believe.

Great so the fund is up to £1. There was a rumour a couple of years ago that the SE5 had made a return, anyone hear any more about that recently?

    Mike,

Would that be Mr Ditheridge’s (previously Desmond St Cyrien’s) lovely G-ASOP before it was sold overseas? Maybe we could all club together and buy it back, I believe the current owner only wants $1.6m for it
