G-TSIM, a Titan 51 has a yellow tail and a V6 Suzuki engine
Its a shame the numbers of volunteers at Duxford have reduced so much, for the 12 years I was a volunteer (84 – 96) there was a very healthy number, I guess times change.
Good to see the Viscount tribute, particularly as that was the first aircraft I worked on at Duxford.
has Kermit Weeks ever owned a Hurricane?
He has (or at least did have in 2009) a partially restored project in storage.
Indeed it was
I thought the ex Anthony Hodgson Harvard G-JUDI had its registration changed to G-TEXN by its then new owner? Its now been sold on again, last I heard it was ‘down south’ but had also heard it was in Denmark?
That G-TXAN
Great picture, is it my imagination or are the aircraft heading North up the coast? In theory from Southwold they would be heading away from Wattisham.
Lovely picture all the same, I’ve only ever witnessed a Mustang hanging off my wing in a similar manner along that bit of coast.
Time to push this back up to the top.
A new addition to the UK register this week is Spitfire FR MK XVIII G-BUOS SM845 registered to Spitfire Ltd in Jersey. This spitfire was originally registered as SE-BIN.
…and G-BUOS before that
Sadly the Ju-52 (actually an Amiot AAC.1) will not have got “up to anything”, as it has been abandoned there by its previous owner. 🙁
Sounds like the 70s and early 80s when aircraft were of a similar vintage were left scattered around when once they had finished their useful purpose….
When will somebody work out that the older the paintwork gets, the more it looks like a service aircraft!
It’s a good job the RAF don’t own the Mona Lisa, she would be on her 94th repaint, and would look like Joan Collins by now!
Guy
Surely the point of painting aircraft such as this is firstly to protect the aircraft as a live machine in order that future enthusiasts can enjoy it and secondly to represent and pay tribute to the many different squadrons, fields of operation etc that the type of aircraft served with.
I’m sure if the Mona Lisa was exposed to all weathers and was taken from art gallery to art galery it too would need some serious attention, similarly however there are aircraft in museums still in paintwork applied in the 40s (and earlier with some types)
If you look at most (all) American registered aircraft flying in the UK they are regstered to either an American or a Trust, that doesn’t mean they are actually owned by that person or trust. I am talking in general here and not about the specific ownership of these two aircraft.
2013 should see TFC’s new P-40C in the air as well!
hasn’t it already flown?
What I would like to see in an aviation magazine is no history, just cover to cover restoration and preservation news and reports, and current vintage aircraft operation, and airshow coverage. Why can’t we have a mag like that? It would be brilliant.
Something like Warbirds Digest and Classic Wings perhaps???
I would think that starting an engine whilst warm, (especially in the summer) up to 6 times would be preferable to one cold start in the winter.
Better have a handy supply of fire extinguishers to hand
