True…It would be a treat if one Herc engine could be kept live but I guess it would require resources and volunteers and funds$…and there are always concerns about risking damaging the aircraft..fire etc…I would imagine a number of the Newark aircraft could be maintained in running condition if the manpower and $ existed..the Varsity comes to mind.
Humm the pictures do seem alittle dark or small or ? 🙂
Would it larger than a DC-3 interior wise?
Does the interior have any seats? I don’t think I have every seen any pictures of the inside.
I guess the Hasting tail was really high on the ground on take offs!!
Has the interior been preserved well in the Newark aircraft?
Heli Jet Aviation purchased a number of the last flyers when they retired the Viscounts in the UK…does anyone know what Heli Jet Aviation was or is?
It’s too bad no airworthly examples could not have been kept in the UK…it would be quite the sight at an airshow to see a Viscount in 60’s livery on the flight line!
3D-PFI last of the flyers……
I guess the British Climate does wonders to the mold growth on the airframes…maybe one day they might be able to freshen the paint a wee bit…
Have anyone been inside their Hastings recently?
Thanks for posting the photos…
I wonder how long it has been since Newark’s Hastings has been moved?
Would that be the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum Viscount now in Capital Airlines colours N7471?
Airworthy Viscounts…
These two Viscounts may still be current in the Democratic Republic of Congo
3D-JAP cn382 Global Airlines, Kinshasa
9Q-CUW cn391 General Numbi, chief of air force, Kinshasa
Does anyone have any current pictures on them recently?
Thanks for posting the Varsity move picture. I guess the moves have also freed up some same on the museum grounds for a few more additions…. 🙂
And it looks like their Hunter has also be repainted recently…are most of their repaints done by hand and brush?
The move….
I am guessing that some of the airframes moved probably have not been moved for many years..I wonder if any were less that cooperative..i.e. frozen wheel bearings etc…it would be interesting to see the Avro Shack or HP Hastings moved to a concrete area..sure cut down the mold and damp in the airframes…
Still Newark has a great collection…
Varsity under cover
Thanks for posting the pictures…I have visited Newark a number of times over the past ten years and it is great to see the collection growing still more..
Great to see the Varsity under a roof…maybe a new paint job will follow shortly…
The Lancaster…
I have been planning on visiting the Calgary Museum for a number of years now..thanks for posting the pictures..The Lancaster appears to have received some markings on her primer gray finish..looks kinda interesting..anyone know what her fate is? will she be finished in sqn colours of a RCAF group? I know they were waiting to find a building to store her in first..
The move..
I thought I would send this picture for scale..as you can see the hangar is quite large in comparsion to the Halifax…The Halifax did look like a B-17 on those truck tires….but it worked..
The new hangar will be her permanent home and it looks big enough to house a few more smaller aircraft but I am not sure if that is in the plans or not!
Andrew
They are planning to restore a Tracker acquired recently it will be worked on in the old restoration hangar that was occupied by the Halifax..
