mjr,
What aircraft beside the Shack are runners and what might be future runners?
“6 aircraft are maintained for ground running, including jets and propped birds, along with another 3 aircraft in the process of being re-built and returned to ground running”
If the airframe is to included in the new super hangar as a walk thru display..what is to become of the rest of the airframe..namely the wings and engines?
Greeting and Happy Holidays from the Great White North (actually it’s raining here)
🙂
Ok so perhaps they took the engines in a sort of trade for freeing up the paperwork to allow the Lancaster to leave Canada…
Was the Lancaster in running condition prior to it being disassembled for it’s shipment to the UK?
I thought her engines were donated to help the CHWM Lancaster. Did they swap those American Build Merlins for RR Merlins once it was restored in the UK?
I read on Airliners.net that the Belfast 9L-LDQ was now grounded in Australia
Anyone heard any more about that story/rumour?
Whom takes care of Canopus? I had read in this forum that her engines are perhaps due to some TLC (getting alittle rusty perhaps)
I would prefer to see her kept in her current colours.
I found alittle info on the RCAF websites about their uses for the Battles.
Role: Gunnery Trainer/Trainer
Quantity in Service: 802
Service: RCAF
Taken on Strength 1939
Struck off Strength 1946
The RCAF received its first Battles in August of 1939 for its intended re-equipment of some of its squadrons — Nos. 414, 111 and 122 Squadrons. A total of 802 eventually were flown by the RCAF. They were used as dual control trainers, target tugs, and gunnery trainers at the Bombing and Gunnery Schools of the BCATP. With the introduction of Bolingbrokes and Harvards, the number of Battles in service declined, but they continued in service until the end of hostilities.
The CAM museum aircraft was manufactured as a pilot trainer in 1940, and taken on strength by the RCAF in 1941. Converted to a turret-gunnery trainer in 1942, it was used until 1943 when it entered storage.
Another picture taken last year…it is rarely even moved these days…still at least it is stored properly..
Canada’s Fairey Battle
Here are a few pictures taken of the Fairey Battle stored/displayed at Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa..
It seems to still in pretty good shape but it is not displayed very often as it is kept in their storage area..
HOHO
“possibly not just the Shackleton”
Any chance the Gannet could be bought back to life again..or she missing for few important pieces?
The Lightning is engineless..I believe:(
Any updates as the Victors problems?
Which Canuck are you restoring serial #? The Borden Military Museum in Ontario on CFB Borden are restoring a Canuck perhaps they might have spares?
How about S.2B XW544 at Shawbury..still due to move to Brunty…will it have a chance at running..or is she without engines?
The Bucc Web site seems to be fine. I look forward to seeing more updates and some pictures in the gallery!!
Good stuff..
