Danny,
Shame you didnt hang around LBA was privileged to two Apache helecopters dropping in around 3:45ish. Assume for fuel.
I would have also had some images but got the the airport went to take my first shot and my camera bleeped due to the lack of the SD card.
Was a nice day up at the local for once.
I went through this same debate a couple of months ago and came to the conclusion that there wasnt much difference in the 1000D Canon and the D3000 Nikon.
I eventually went for the Nikon for two reasons.
1. The Nikon images look much better straight out of the camera. The Canon looks a bit soft.
2. The Niikon felt much more solid and well made.
I have to say I got it with the kit lens 18 – 55mm and it is ok but I now need another lens to get much closer and cannot decide which one to buy.
On saying all of the above if you have had a 400D then maybe you already have some Canon lenses. If this is the case then another Canon is probably the best solution.
Hope this helps.
Cheers for the comments guys like I said I am new to the DSLR world but have taken a few pictures previously with my point and shoot.
Paul, I will look at the two that I have posted and maybe repost them to here to see if I have cropped them correctly this time. This is the first time also that I have edited shots using my new software. I have purchased a copy of photoshop elements and find it quite simple to use although I am only using the quick edit features at the moment.
LBA is my local to be honest I live about 12 miles south east of the airport and generally go up just to practice when I get time. I am sure our paths will cross at some point. I normally go to the bench or round to near the grave yard. But I have heard there are some good photo opportunities somewhere near the runway 32 end??
Once again cheers for the help.
Regards
Jetphotos Rejections
Guys,
Didn’t really think it would come to anything but in my nature I always like to try so I thought I would post a couple of my images on jetphotos and see what they had to say. Now a few of them were classed as “soft / Undersharppened” which is fine and probably half the issues are my photoshop skills arent great and also i had to crop into the image alot.
I then posted a couple that I thought were ok and the reason they declined these were ” bad framing / aircraft not centered” so just wondered if you guys on here might have some tips on how else I could centre them as I am a bit confused.

Look forward to your response.

James,
These shots have been cropped and edited a little so hence why they seem much closer than you would expect and why I think I have lost a little bit of quality on some of them.
Cheers for the comments anyway.
Nah, see, its about trusting the professionals… I don’t know anything about ships either, but if the captain said it was safe that’d be good enough for me (unless it was the captain sleeping in the lifeboat!). Airline crew don’t go about wrecklessly endangering themselves, and whilst I know quite a bit about aviation I’m not intimately familiar with the 757 MEL – but if the captain says its good enough to go, then I’ll get on too. I’d bet a good number of these chavs would happily drive their cars around with defects and without concern for their own or others safety were it not for fear of getting nabbed by the Rozzers, and yet when it comes to aviation they want to be the uninformed judge and jury. Well let them do it – but when they take matters into their own hands, they should be prepared for the consequences – in this case, to get themselves home.
OK, so maybe communication wasn’t the best, but like I said before I think best in these cases to tell people what to do/where to sit and say no more – I little knowledge is a truely dangerous thing to the ignorant.
To be honest Skymonster I think not only are you not looking at this from the correct angle of someone who knows nothing and some of which maybe scared to fly even when things are perfect you are assuming a plane load of “chavs” as you put it.
To be honest I am not saying I would choose Majorca as a holiday destination but you have to remember the country is not in the best state as it is and money is a premium at the moment. We have to assume that there were a number great or small of people on this flight who weren’t “chavs”. Maybe familys with children taking a well deserved holiday in the sun maybe.
I am not sure where you would choose to holiday but if they choose Majorca then thats up to them doesnt mean they are chavs.
Anyway rant over back on topic!
Not true, if the aircraft was not safe then it would not have been flying, it would have been put in a state of ‘tech’ and repaired at Palma. Aircraft fly everyday with minor issues which are not repaired until the aircraft is back at an appropriate base where the repair can be made in the most cost effective way. ONLY if the problem is deemed dangerous will the aircraft not be permitted to fly, and these things are so tightly controlled by the CAA that the airline would not have operated the service in anything but a fit to fly state.
On your second point, they are not to know whether it is safe or not, that’s why they are not pilots/aircraft mechanics/operations managers, you have to trust in the airline and the regulatory system. Again, refer to my point at the top, a certain type of traveller perhaps on board?? (sorry mods…of course I’m only kidding :diablo:)
I think that we all have to understand that most of the gereral public know very little about how the planes systems function and why they are loaded in certain ways for balance, trim etc etc.
On this board we all know that little more as it is our interest or job in some cases so we are in a better position to understand more what is been said to us.
As stated before it seems to me that this could have been handled much better by the representatives of the airline and maybe explained in a way in which the passengers would not be worried something may occur.
We have to remember that most do not read forums to explain why accidents occur but they read the press and watch the news which gives a different impression. Lets face it I guess the tragic loss of the Air France plane is still fresh in the minds of most.
I am not saying they should have boycotted the flight bu maybe with the way it was descibed to them it may have been a panic reaction??
As far as I am aware LSAI is not ETOPS cleared and therefore cannot be used on the New York route.
Correct me if I am wrong but was there not some kind of issue with the Chinese plane AG, AH and AI doing the longer Cannaries and Cyprus routes??
Cheers
I thought G-LSAI is for the JFK route.
757’s
Guys as far as I was aware the 757 had more than enough range to be able to complete a UK – SFB route???
Jet 2 757 Stuck
Speaking of Jet2 G-LSAA is currently tech in Arrecife. It went into Faro on the way down with engine problems and was a late arrival. It appears they have chartered another 757 due LBA tonight @ 19:35. The a/c reg is CS-TLX Euro Atlantic 757.
Seems AA might be there a while!
Allan
Was just looking on Jethros and looking at it first choice have an all Boeing long and medium haul fleet and a Airbus short haul fleet. What do you think they will do when it comes to replacing the A320’s and A321’s???
Thanks guys! 🙂
I think they did a similar thing with LSAC….
Are they transfering ownership to a leasing company and then transfering the reg back once the lease agreement is in place??
I dunno but they are now up to 10 757’s does anyone know there plans for these???
I know what the supertanker is, but why is it in the UK???
Thanks
But if you read the article it states that the fuel tanks are filled with water which adds the fuel weight back on! Agreed there are no PAX or cargo but the article also states this.
Plus they do also comment that if anyone has a heavier aircraft for a trial they will try!
But still I would say for a almost standard going road car to pull 155 tones with no side affects is pretty impressive!
