Wouldn’t that be ideal? They tried that and the public came down very hard on them for being ‘institutionally racist’.

OST used to be one day every six months. It’s now half a day every 12 months. OST = Office Safety training.

That is all part of the diversity and Police officer core values training and constant emails that are sent round by inspectors who do nothing but send round emails.

I’m not blaming it on anyone. I’m pointing out the situation that the service is currently in. Every single decision a Police officer takes is scrutinized by 10 or more people in armchairs not dealing with that situation.

Take Charlie Gilmour as a classic case – He complained about Police violence. That means that some officer (or officers) right now have a report on file against them about force and violence yet video footage proves gilmour was a lying toad who was smacked by other students. Just because people have lied to get officers into trouble doesn’t remove the original complaint from the officers file.

    Is that fair?

    @paul178

They’re quite good at getting convictions, just mainly against generally “good” people, rather than against the people who are responsible for most of the crime. I bet they get loads of speeders, but probably not so good at getting repeat burlgars.

Wrong. Often officers are told to focus on certain types of activity ‘to make the numbers look good’. It’s sick and wrong but it’s how Theresa May’s Police service is run.

I suggest you read this persons blog -> http://inspectorgadget.wordpress.com/

to me the modern police are either scum or at the other side are inneficient and the only thing that brings them together is thier toytown training !!

I know many Police officers to the point that I applied to become one not so long ago. My family are Police, quite a few friends are as well. I think what you have said is rude and disingenuous.

The only point where you are correct is regarding the toytown training. Every officer gets half a day self defense and three days ethnic diversity training. Most officers have seen known criminals get away scott free thanks to the CPS and many are running around with next to no backup thanks to cutbacks.

a photo of the jet in question:

Another amazing thing is that security didn’t stop him and didn’t even notice the crashed jet! It was staff showing up for work that spotted it.

I work in a town in the South East that has higher than average unemployment, and that will suffer two half-days of total traffic disruption as the torch passes through later this week. What benefit will this town see after the torch has left?
    Paul F

That wouldn’t be chatham would it?

My wife works there and has been asked to come in a few hours early as the Olympic torch makes its way down the A229 to Maidstone thus closing off several major roads into and out of Maidstone and surrounding areas.

From Friday week I have no high speed train service as thats being given over to the Olympics. Compensation has been mentioned but there has been no solid answer. I am hoping I can work from home and avoid the mess.

There were reports of a 32 mile tailback on the M4 as the first Olympic lane opened -> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2174218/Rush-hour-chaos-Olympic-lane-opens-M4.html

The DfT haven’t looked into it and have simply called it ‘rubbish’ -> http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/2012/32-mile-m4-tailbacks-just-rumours

so I think that underscores quite nicely where the Govt’s priorities lay.

It’s G4S the so-called security firm that you have to blame for ‘thousands of troops before kick-off’. Their ‘organisation’ or, lack of it.

They bid 25% less than anyone else. No one asked why. Now they know and G4S are blaming the IT systems.

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07/16/software_caused_olympic_security_fiasco/

I have it on decent authority that G4S computer systems couldn’t cope before the Olympics and are very outdated.

ANA and JAL have both gone the 787 route.

They closed down all the car parks around Stratford back around June 18th. also, a lot of the train services are being cancelled/reduced so the whole thing is a pain in the neck – not just from the GA side of things.

Makes me laugh when the Puma ‘never exceed’ speed is a good 20 knots slower than my aircraft’s cruise

Isn’t that what the Typhoons are for? 🙂

The whole thing is a massive over reaction. I work in London and so far haven’t seen much in the way of security improvements. A few more armed police patrols but that’s about it.

It’ll be interesting to see if it increases in the next few weeks. Hopefully I’ll be working from home for the big sportsday event itself.

I feel for the commerical pilots flying into the major airports knowing that there are several rapier missile batteries following them. Not something I’d even want to think about.

On the GA side of things, this whole Atlas control just sounds a bit of a mess and something of a nightmare for the powers that be to accurately manage.
