I had forgotten the dog with the eyepatch, he was cool. And yes, now you mention it, I think Tales of the Gold Monkey was set on an Asian island rather than the Pacific as I’d thought. There were certainly a number of Asian charcaters in it. Man, I really want to see it again someday.

I remember Automan vaguely, with his car that turned 90 degree corners in an instant. I think he could run real fast too, or was that some other show? I don’t remember the others.

That’s right, Grey Matter, he did. I’d forgotten that. The IMDb review is scathing of the show, and it brought back some memories about it. I think today I’d find it pretty bad. Funny how as a kid things can seem so cool. (Mind you, look at the trash kids watch today, all the Japanamation and other violent cartoons, they love it, we adults don’t)

I’d love to see Tales of the Gold Monkey again. It was set on a tropical island somewhere in the Pacific before WWII. The main guy Jake was a pilot and from memory got into lots of adventures involving smugglers, etc. Real Boys Own stuff. He had a mate called Corky who was also in Black Sheep Squadron

I liked Robin’s Nest, especially for Albert Riddle, the one armed dishwasher. And the theme tune was cool, I have that dowloaded to my computer. It was another that hasn’t been repeated, but its predecessor Man About The House (and it’s other spin-off, the brilliant ‘George and Mildred’) have a lot.

I loved Cheers but of course that was a little later than the others. Plus it’s been repeated a lot here.

I recall Jamie and the Magic Torch, but the other shows you guys mentioned haven’t come to NZ I don’t think. I have heard about some of them from my Britsih mates though.

Yes, it is cute, but rabbit’s are not a good idea on an airfield (that is, if it is indeed an active airfield)

Just a thought here… Maybe a bunch of you guys who are going could, with the grace or permission of Sally B’s owners, stage a protest next to the grounded B17 with placards and banners to make other airshow goers aware of the situation. I’m sure it would arouse a lot of support. If not placards, and you’d prefer more subtlety, perhaps make up and hand out flyers near the plane, explaining the situation and pleading with people to write to their MP’s.

I know you chaps will be sick of this sort of thing just after an election, but maybe you’ll have to fight these politicians wih their own methods?

An old 1992 itnerview I taped from TV with Ray Hanna when he was in NZ also confirmed Ray is the ‘star’ of the film in the P51D fly-by. Originally it was scheduled to be Mark Hanna, but Spielberg decided to use Ray because he was older and represented a more fatherly figure for the boy character to connect with, it said.

Just how many Hurricane replicas did the film have then? A load seemed to be burned and blown up in the opening scenes. Two are in New Zealand, one on a pole at Motat which has been confirmed to me as a genuine film replica from Battle of Britain, and one at Omaka who’s website claims also came from the film.

It seems to me they must have ade at least half a dozen for the film. Apparently the Motat and Omaka examples have very different contraction methods. I think both are fibreglass skinned.
