Yes, there was a cover story in FlyPast (showing the CAF’s one flying) when it arrived at Duxford and that stated it was intended to get it flying. I guess there would have been potential filmwork and airshow work for it.

Serious question, did the Spanish ever use the CASA 2111’s in any sort of combat at all? Or was pretending to be the Luftwaffe the closest they got to war? I believe they were used as trainers for a lot of their career, is that right?

It’s not unauthetic, Spanish Air Force Casa 2111’s did wear Luftwaffe shemes while in service, whilst making a certain film. So it’s a genuine Spanish Air Force scheme.

I agree Moggy, I remember seeing double-VC winner Charles Upham on television several times, and he never seemed to be able to work out what the fuss was about. I have seen others too, all very humble and unassuming about it. Brave men all.

Do truck and bus drivers wave to each other in your countries? Here in NZ they do, regardless of if they know the other driver. It’s strange. I first noticed when travelling with an RNZAF truck driver and he said it was an unwritten code on the road, wave to other trucks and buses. I’ve noticed loads do!!

Steve, we even have a few CWGC headstones in our local Cambridge cemeteries (Hautapu and Leamington). This is mainly because nearby to Cambridge was a Sanitorium for soldiers who returned from the war wounded, and those who died were often buried here.

I asked the local museum curator about them one day, whether anyone cared for them, and she said the Department of Internal Affairs has a specialist unit that goes round every town and city once a year and ensures that CWGC graves and also Cenotaphs are in good shape. They paint what needs to be painted and clean what needs to be cleaned, etc. Apparently they used to have one old lady who was this specialist team and she did it well into her 80’s, but I think it’s a bit more slick now.

Does the British Government provide a similar service? I enquore because it seems odd that you, a member of the public, has to be the one to get off your chuff to do it. I commend you highly for doing so, but I wonder about your Government if they don’t do it.
