Absolutely worth watching, they all are. This one is from the American angle and talks a lot about their hypocrytical race laws and poor women’s rights, etc., but has a lot of interesting combat footage too. They showed footage of the Tuskagee airmen training, and also the women ferry pilots, in tonights one. Coloured footage of Liberators in formation too, and lots of B17’s over Europe (some of which is from The Memphis Belle).

I preferred the first series and the second one based on the British War best. Maybe because John Thaw was so superb, I really miss him. The The Colour of War: ANZACs was a good series too, lots of previously unseen stuff.

Wow, I guess it makes that coloured film of one in service even more special then. Cheers mate.

Thanks Chris, that second one, the DC5 looks very much like it. I think that is the very aeroplane.

I’d never seen or heard of one of these before. Cheers. And still flying today?

You might as well go bend a few RAF and USAF fighters then Damien to prevent the slaughter of more Iraqis in that illegal war. Don’t worry, the court precedent will get you off scot free afterwards!

Don’t you think it looks a little like a cross between a Blenheim and a Mitchell?

I have not yet found when it entered RAF service as a bomber, but apparently it was obsolete by the beginning of the war so must be pre-1939?

    You’re getting there Stewart.

The AW Albemarle was the first type (8 of from 296 Sqn) to drop paratroops for D Day. The paras were from the 5th Parachute Brigade , dropped late on the 5th of June 1944, 40 minutes behind the Pathfinders.

That was quicker than I thought, well done both.

But – what was the types greatest claim to fame? Or let’s put it this way, probably the type’s most important or notable event – an event that has become long forgotten.

I remembered that Lancashire comedian – Al Read. Well worth a listen if you get a chance.

Gnome, thanks, looks nice, but… $140 is cheap??? What’s the usual price in Auckland then for a night? Holy cow, you can stay in a five star hotel, in central Hamilton for $99. As a very poor student, the car is looking more of an option now. Haha.

Actually even though I’m an insomniac, when I am tired I’m one of those people who can sleep anywhere, car, chair, floor, couch, whatever. So I’ll find somewhere I hope. So long as it’s not in that bed with Setter and Turbo, lol

Nonsense! No sleeping in the car! You can stay in Setter’s room.

And don’t call me Mr. Patterson…

    Owh, thanks Mr Steve 🙂
