so what was the verdict :diablo:
is’nt it interesting .. the question is about MKI .. then at some point F-22 is injected.. and if that’s not enough we sway to justifications of supercruise.. then get into radars.. and then back on engines.. 😀 Intersting aha..
Joey.. I like your optimism.. but neither is IAF going for AESA on MKI nor are we getting the al-41’s…. and/or fm1’s either… everything costs… russians are not sitting there and saying.. hey.. I just added a couple of pounds of thrust on the engines you have.. would yaa.. try them… then when we would have tried.. they would say.. the above again.. 😀 .. the same goes for the radar and other systems.. neither are we getting into a high composite usage for MKI in near future.. the damn thing would have to be first developed and then certified in multitude of flight envelopes.. so any kind of upgrades would come around 2015…. everything is dependent on the ROI.. be it monitory/capability etc.. for the current requirements of the IAF the current bunch is more then sufficent in there capabilities and IAF currently has more important needs to sink it’s teeths in.. as choppers/aircraft upgrades/more IFR’s/C3I upgrades/AWACS/missile upgrades/missile purchases/transport aircraft upgrade and new purchases etc..
MKI has a lot of potential in it not because it consists of this or that system BUT because it comes with deep TOT and this gives us the leverage to play with it more then what we would have otherwise.. comparing it to any other aircraft would not be a wise idea as all aircrafts are designed as per specific requirements of their intended airforces.. and our requirements are very much different from what the USAF has.. the requirements vary from capabilities to the strings of your purse.. (i swear.. I wanted to buy a Honda but the HQ would not sanction the budget 😉 … damn it why I got married.. )
Sorry for the lecture buddy.. hopefully you would take it positively..
Coming to the MKI and Supercruise.. I guess as it was said in the very beginning that it can but would not be meaningful enough.. as in the range and time factor would come in play.. might be useful in the tactical battlefield zone but would not be utilised the way other aircrafts would use it.. depends on the tactics defined with the capability acknowledged in the respective aircraft..
and a request …MKI just looks dragier.. please don’t go on it’s appearance.. (in clean state)
Cheers
🙂
arthur.. I am looking for information on following for 76
1) How many were built in total
2) What is the current rate of production at how many facilities
3) What are the upgrade plans
4) Any successor in next decade
5) Why does it require such a big number of crew as compared to the western transports
Searched but could not get satisfactory information as I know this aircraft is manufactured in Uzbekistan but it seems they do not have a website..
Harry.. the color code is usually..
Blue – Peacetime Air Superiority
Green/Sand – Strike and Wartime Common
Orange/Dayglo – Over Sea flights…
Please confirm..
😀 You caught the fine print FM…
Vehicle is Custom Man KAT 1 series
now it comes in a new variant SX-45
None of the ships as of yet has our developed 3D Radar and torps…
Although we are reaching there.. still time to go..
Harshad.. just wanted to say that we were not caught with our pants down.. .on the F-16 to pak etc..
Second… IAF is very well aware of what it NEEDS and is moving in the direction .. where it would be enlarging the capability gap between it and it’s identified competitors. F-16 package being there or not..
Guys… what is the significance of CAG/MKI out here..
Inevitably the US will want to know what THEY get out of the deal. Somehow I don’t think they’ll feel “you tell us how to make everything so we don’t have to buy anymore planes from you and oh we’ll use that info to compete AGAINST you” is going to be very tempting
You lost the point.. maybe.. I was not clear enough.. firstly it’s NOT 100% TOT.. as we are not saying “you tell us how to make everything”… there is 30% offset clause and a TOT mentioned in the reports about this MRCA Req..
30% offset is on the TOTAL value of the deal..
TOT % are not mentioned in the reports per se..
MKI was a DEEP licencing.. where in all the information WAS provided to us.. if not 100%.. I would ASSUME it was over 90% of all the SKU’s required for the manufacture of MKI..
NOW HAL is not going to make 100% equipment in-house.. that is going to be there business call.. but atleast for future platforms if they let’s say want to introduce some improvement in the IRST.. then they will not start the work from 1000ft height.. they already have the TOT for that.. they would prob.. work at let’s say 100ft and the subsequent development if accepted would be integrated to the other or future platform… POINT.. we do not have an in-house developed IRST with us.. but we were able to now develop one on the base that was provided to us by MKI TOT….
As for the laws of the individual countries interested in the RFP.. it will depend.. how much they can accomodate us.. and vice versa.. considering all the possibilities including political .. US included..
Are we on the same page of understanding..
Why would they want to do that after the Flanker fiasco? Home grown Flankers cost something like double what they do when they buy them from Russia. If they want all you describe then of course the US is going to say “well what the hell is in it for US??”
The crucial part is the TECHNOLOGY and NOT the COST.. this is important for the future growth of the IAF.
MKI brought in TECHNOLOGY and so will any other foreign big ticket defence items now being sought..
You have to understand what we(India) want in the future to what we lack currently and chalk out the path through which we would reach there..
F-15/JSF/F-22 etc being the best would still not fulfill what we want in our future platforms. As you must be knowing well enough that a country cannot feel secure just by borrowing equipment… it has to have a sound developer base too..
Meanwhile … who is the lead designer at SKB… can someone also explain the order book status of the KNAAPO and IAPO….
What is the financing model for the new aircraft under development..
Guys… please cut this crap of the CAG etc out here in this thread.. this thread is about a possibility of an F-16 version in the IAF colors.. and not about MKI/CAG etc..
